"We do not have filtering software" does not mean "We LOVE porn!" you mongoloid

I feel bad for your copyeditors.

I’ve sent you some private e-mails. As to the library staff member- DO NOT LET THAT BE KNOWN as I 100% ASSURE YOU she would be fired immediately. In fact when we speak do not even tell me who it was because I cannot legally keep the information confidential if asked about it. For one thing the library has a clear NO PHOTOGRAPHS POLICY and that alone is enough to lose her job (especially since one of the librarians and one of the students in the photograph are FURIOUS over the issue).

As for the dean loving the article, I won’t dispute what he told you, but rest assured- he did not. At all. As in… well, I’ll just say I will gladly speak with you on the issue and tell you about it (though it must wait until after next Tuesday as I have to go out of town on a family matter).

I’m not sure student newspapers have copyeditors. You wouldn’t believe some of the mistakes I’ve caught in various school papers over the years.

They do, how else are they going to learn all about journalism? Some people actually want the job of copy editor. What better place to learn to use the red pencil brutally than on fellow hapless students?

Just what is an analyzation, anyways? Sounds like something one might find a video of on a porn site or something.

Damn. Burned.

"analyzation
The act of analyzing, or separating into constituent parts; analysis.

From CancerWEB’s online dictionary. Good enough.

You fucked that one up :wally

Brief is relative. If it were the Illiad we’d still be waiting for Achilles to get pissy.

Re: analyzation

Just because G W Bush used a word in a speech once doesn’t make it a proper part of the English language. :stuck_out_tongue:

You may like John Zorn as well. He’s not as visceral as Gabriel and he’s hit & miss, but some of his Masada works are wonderful. My favorite moments of his that I’ve heard were on Bar Kokbha. (I don’t have the liner notes, just itunes of them, so I’m really not sure why he called it Bar Kokbha. (Perhaps he makes his guitarists cut off a finger to demonstrate loyalty or, like bar Kokbha and Lennon, he feels he’s “more popular than Christ”; I just hope the Jews don’t have to leave Jerusalem again because of him.)

Apologies. The above was for another thread.

I’m not trying to mod either, but I wouldn’t define mikefaulk’s reply as a vanilla-like IRL clash. He even took being referred to as a disingenuous mongoloid in stride. I have to assume the only thing the staff will do is edit out his contact number.

Oh, and disc #1 of the Bar Kokhba compilation is a far better set than disc 2 is.

Yeah, Sampiro, I read the article and found it to be more of an interesting, “whaddya’ know,” type bit rather than a hardline diatribe on the need for comprehensive control for the pornographic scourge which is overwhelming the good Christian values of the poor 'wittle U of A freshmen.

Also, props for Faulk for coming online to defend the article. Perhaps you should consider sticking around.

Yes, but a lot of us Dopers tend to look down upon ‘managerese.’ I can accept that ‘analyzation’ has become an accepted word, while believing that it is a neologism that adds nothing to the language, especially as it means the same thing as the more familiar, and simpler, analysis. Heck, we recently had a thread where someone spoke about their hate for the neologism ‘flammable’ as a sop to those who lack the education to recognize that imflammable and inflammable do not mean the same thing. No one in that thread doubted the use of such a neologism - but there were still people saying that the word ‘flammable’ rubbed them the wrong way. And you want us to believe that ‘analyzation’ should be accepted, sans comment?

I grant this is the same sort of thinking that has had people arguing that it’s poor form to end a sentence with a preposition; and that ain’t ain’t a word. I still believe that ‘analyzation,’ ‘orientate*,’ and other examples of managerese where perfectly good, well-established words exist that mean the same thing is a particularly vile form of newspeak. It would be different if ‘analyzation’ offered some nuance of meaning that were not included in the word ‘analysis.’ I grant, such a nuace may come to be grafted onto the word.

For the nonce, however, all it seems to add is a sense of pretention and the impression in some readers of a lack of a clear vocabularly on the part of person who uses it.
*this is for the ‘managerese’ version of orientate, which means nothing more or less than ‘brief.’ Rather than the outdoorsperson’s version of the word which means to locate, precisely, where one is in relation to a map and known landmarks.

Having the SEAL talk about orientating the team after insertion makes complete sense. Having the supermarket manager talk about orientating the new hires does not.

Hey Otaku, you’re needed over here

You know, if you had loaded that pic yourself there, you could literally say that you “found” it “saved”. :dubious:

Maybe it’s just me, but I think an edit that contained a Triple-X email and Double-X phone number would’ve been far more befitting for the the subject at hand.

Don’t presume what I don’t know. I don’t see how the DS reference (which I already knew of) makes things any better though. Mongol is not the same as Mongoloid. Otherwise, I pretty much don’t follow this post.
