Edlyn told me about the star. And while I greatly appreciate and much admire your eloquent post, I wasn’t saying anything at all about religion or faith. The phrase “almost like” was intended as a clue that an analogy followed, and the phrase “God and everybody” is a colloquialism that means simply “everyone”. I will not risk any misunderstanding at this point by saying God go with you, so I will simply leave you with all the best, my friend. ---

Every thread ever killed by a mod with the excuse ‘because it attracts the wrong kind of people’ is at least a weak example. ---

**Lib** , I’m a little bit “toey” about religion or “faith” of any kind because the only personal memories I can associate with either are pretty horrific. Nonetheless, I am not naive enough to blame “the churches” or “the faiths” in general for the actions of the few. I don’t believe in any kind of divine being; nonetheless, I find places of worship (mosques, cathedrals, churches, etc) incredibly still and peaceful sanctuaries. I have found refuge at times in all of the above - it’s never, EVER been conditional upon my having a belief in a particular interpretation of “the divine”. I am very often awed by the extent to which people share not only their faith in “the divine” but also their doubts about the existence of such a being with me. You’d probably all call me a “hypocrite”, because I don’t believe in any of your “gods”, and I don’t acccept any of your scriptures as “divine law”. What I’m always amazed by **Lib** is how - at the end of the day - we can find so many issues on which we have similar viewpoints; and if we don’t have similar viewpoints, then we can at least understand what the other person is saying. Perhaps - as an atheist - I’m interpreting the message of Christianity wrongly. But IMHO, you couldn’t find a better example of the best of any of the world’s major religions than what you see on the SDMB ---

My hope is that you find the longing of your spirit (your essence), Reprise, no matter whether it is my God, someone else’s God, or no God at all. I certainly don’t think you’re a hypocrite. I was commanded in no uncertain terms to refrain from splitting the world into atheists and theists. I was told that love is unfamiliar with such boundaries, and that all that existed within them was vapor. Perhaps I should change my familiar salutation to “Love go with you always”. ---
