Our dear Ranger had to be put to sleep this morning. She lived a long life (either 18 or 19 depending on who you ask) but her last year was not so pleasant. Mrs Bwana and I held her as the doctor eased her pain for the last time. I know it was merciful but I feel so rotten that this task fell on Christmas Eve of all days. Hug your pets folks, every day! Thanks Baker. Ranger was a “She” actually; long story on how she got that name. I hope she’s pouncing around with all the great cats and dogs that preceded her. There’s three old cats of mine that I’m sure were there to greet her. ---

Sorry to hear about that man. No words I could speak will asuage your sadness but we both know it was for the animals own good. I had a cat die about 2 months ago. It found a warm place under a bed and drew it’s final breath. It wasn’t in any pain that caused it a hard life, but be sure if it was, I would have put it down. I don’t believe pain can be appreciated by animals. That is the providence of man. ---

Hey **Bob** Wow! She was y’all’s baby for a lot of years, huh? I think that’s just wonderful, that she got to live that long and took care of her humans all those years. You know that tired old phrase “I know just how you feel?”, and it makes one wanna come back with “No, you **don’t**!”? I think I can say with a lot of conviction that those of us who also love our animals do know how you and your wife are feeling, and how very difficult it must have been to let Ranger go. In another thread, someone wrote that our ability to empathize with each other over the loss of an animal is something our species can be proud about. (I hope I got the gist of that all right!) i’m sorry. it was a year ago that i found out that my nod the naughty had cancer that had spread to many organs. i waited 'till after christmas for the house call because she was doing okay and eating like a horse. i’m sure she has met your ranger and is showing her all the cool spots. ---

There \*\* is\*\* no “good” time, is there, but around the holidays is especially bad because our little ones are so much a part of the family, and just like losing a human family member at this time of the year, it hurts like hell. I am so sorry for everyone’s loss at this time! Bill ---
