[Transcript of Clinton’s speech](http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/09/what-bill-clinton-said-vs-what-he-wrote/56562/) highlighting when he went off his prepared remarks. Reading it this way, I can’t help but hear his voice in my head as I’m reading it. It really shows that this speech wasn’t just phoned in, but that he really believed in and is passionate about its message. ---

Hey moonshot, you do realize that the Republican Party of Lincoln’s day represented what you would now describe as “left wing,” “liberal” or “progressive,” right? That’s like me saying the Detroit Tigers are currently the best team in baseball because they won the World Series in 1984. And this is a discussion thread for the Democratic National Convention. It’s not a catch-all “Democrats suck, Republicans rock” kind of thread. If you just want to shit on Democrats, I’m sure you could find other more appropriate threads available for that. ---

I was amazed at how much better Bill Clinton has become as a speaker. He was good back in the day, but I’d always felt a bit of a carnie shell game vibe to his tone back then. I expect that now that he doesn’t have to pander and mince words to appeal to congressional support, he is free to tell it straight. ---

Your argument completely fails when you look at what the Republican Party has done. Like I said, 13th and 15th amendments passed by Repub Congress. First black men in congress were Hiram Revels and Blanche Bruce, both were Republicans. ---
