The population center of the United States is [Plato, Missouri](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plato,_Missouri). That’s a small village so not a good location for a national capital. But the city of [Springfield, Missouri](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield,_Missouri) is close by, and has a nice all-American name. ---
