# We planted about 100 bulbs yesterday and some critter dug up 30 of them last night (or maybe the morning.)

FWIW, bone meal attracts some animals. Per [here](https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/bonemeal-main-uses/) this includes dogs and foxes.

Did you use bone meal?

So the rock project was a semi-fail. plenty of grass and weed came up through the rock.

I think I’ll have to pull the rocks up onto the walk and pull all the weeds/grass by the roots and then put the rocks back, packing them in as I go. **I won’t use weed killer** and we were trying to avoid barrier paper so the bulbs could spread over the years. Not sure how feasible this all is.

Unfortunately, I spoke from experience. I doubt “packing” will solve your problem, and feel such gravel is a challenging choice in most temperate climates. Good luck. Down the line you may get to experience the neverending joy of trying to REMOVE stones from your garden area. 😬
