We should give Israel to the Mormons

Rants belong in The BBQ Pit and silliness belongs in MPSIMS. This is not a Great Debate. I think this goes in the Pit.

Bye.

Well, an anagram for Palestine is penalties, so. . .there’s that.

I’m sorry that my country’s problems offend your sensibilities. Why, I’m certain I’ll lose tons of sleep over this.

I guess you don’t really know why there are so many Mormons in Utah. I don’t think they’d take so kindly to being told that “their home” is outside of the US…again.

I’m perfectly happy with the Mormons having their own God-forsaken land in Utah. It has been keeping them there that has been the problem.

What? Huh? I missed where I said that mormons don’t belong in the US.

I was referring to the fact that we have a state that is a majority religious minority why not two?

Here’s a more comprehensive solution, courtesy of the first-rate problem solvers at The Onion.

Me! Me! Hell, just pave over the whole disputed area and nobody gets it.

What would you prefer, having rockets launched at you or Jon Bon Jovi? You can take some time to think about it.

Here’s another one of the Onion’s solutions: Ethniklashistan.

In which case, discussing where the Jewish homeland should be is about 65 years out of date, innit?

And what exactly do y’all propose to do with me? Maybe I like it here and don’t feel like moving…? You going to come and get me and force me out?

The solution is obvious: move the Israelis to Greece and move the Estonians to Israel.

So uhmmm…what exactly happens in the settlements, and when Palestinians homes get buldozed or bombed?

I guess they’re all happy about that as well right?

You know how the Jewish people have a history with the area formerly known as Palestine and before that known as Israel and a few other terms for different parts of that little chunk of Earth’s real estate? Well, the Mormons have a bit of a history with the United States doing nothing when they got chased out of the country. In the past, the Mormons were told–very strongly, at that—that they don’t belong in the United States. If by some miracle, another place outside of the US were to be designated as a new Mormon homeland and the American Mormons were told, “Hey, here’s a new homeland just for you guys!” what, exactly, do you think those US Mormons are going to think about that?

I think the better idea is to have the parties in Israel, Palestine, and the adjoining countries/territories sit down and negotiate in good faith to stop the madness there. “In good faith” does not mean sending rockets willy-nilly into Israel for giggles and it certainly doesn’t include sending one into Jerusalem.

I think the Palestinians should be moved straight into Compton.

Haven’t the Jews suffered enough ?

Out of curiosity, would you also support a mass immigration of Palestinians to any state, since it would solve the problem equally well?

Um… when exactly did that happen in the West Bank settlements? (you’ll see why I’m explicitly excluding Gaza in a moment)

Look, a few points:

  1. You have no idea what is my opinion of the vast majority of the settlements (and the settlers) on the West Bank
  2. The “problem” with the Palestinians on the West Bank is precisely that they are very definitely still there - no-one but the most extreme nut-jobs discusses forcibly moving them elsewhere – as several people so glibly suggested doing to me in this thread.
  3. While not explicit in the OP, I think this and other threads have come up now due to the latest round of fighting in Gaza. There is no Israeli presence in Gaze. Zero, none, zip, nada. And there has been none for over 5 years now. So it’s a complete non sequitur.

The thing I would like you to take away from this exchange is the following:
I’m a moderate left-wing person. I have never voted for Likud and never will; I have actively campaigned and demonstrated against them. I think the situation in the West Bank is untenable and that the we are comporting ourselves poorly there.
However, if you start telling me you want me out of Tel Aviv, the city I was practically born in and the city I have lived in nearly all of my almost 50 years, I will tell you exactly where you can shove that idea.
Others (in other threads and IRL) can do the same with the idea that we will live with constant missile attacks on our civilians – all within the 1948, agreed-upon borders of Israel proper (google Sderot) – and just grin and bear it. We tried. For 12 years, 7 of which since we got out of Gaza (which was supposed to be what we wanted). Doesn’t seem to be working out to well. It’s over.

Wait, you mean one of my options is to have rockets launched at Bon Jovi? Sign me up!
