I suppose you are right. The Trump administration would not give a shit, and it certainly wouldn’t affect them. But it would cause a stir. If Walmart and Kroger miss a week of sales, that may get the attention of some Trump supporters. The rich ones. What can we do? I bought a ‘Same Shit, Different Hat’ sweat shirt. I’m probably just enriching someone in China. Voting doesn’t seem to help, and the GOP is going to make sure that it never helps. ---

The rich ones. you think protesting big businesses, over the Thanksgiving weekend, is, in some undefined way, going to affect Trump? Some kind of fuzzy, muddled, anti-capitalist protest is going to be held against Trump by his backers? That is delusional. If you want to oppose Trump, why not protest his actions directly (ICE, etc.) ---

Ok, I’m in a different spot in my life. Working from home. Gonna retire in a month. I certainly could stay off the streets/stores for a week. Don’t buy a thing is what I see this as, more than not working. I’m sure that’s harder or impossible for some. ---

Thanksgiving is the only major holiday I get to spend with my cousins. I don’t spend much except for travel expenses. If we do go out on the weekend it is to an event. Sometimes I like to go to the local thrift stores. I have never been one to buy much of anything anyhow and even less this year since all the government nonsense started. But I will be celebrating Thanksgiving. ---

If we were to be realistic - getting back to the OP - what can realistically be done to oppose Trump? I don’t think for one moment that enough Americans are going to participate in a Thanksgiving no-shopping boycott to make it have any impact or even be noticed. ---

A one-day strike, not on a major holiday, might get enough people to accomplish something. And it might be possible to work up from there — if done with clear recognition that no, it’s not easy for quite a lot of people, and not possible for all. The bus strikes for civil rights, which worked, included large efforts to help people get where they needed to go by other means. ---

You can have a strike without a union. Granted, it would be easier with unions — if the unions will join it instead of arguing against it. ---

Unions haven’t really had the power to change business much in the last fifty years; changing a government is way out of their weight class. If an anti-Trump coalition had the numbers to carry off a national strike, Trump would never have been elected in the first place.
