I think I should set a fundraiser goal of 300k for this hat. Do you think that’s good? Or should I just go with a half mil? ---

No, actually Ecuador is the place to go for true Panama hats. The New York Times had a [photo essay](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/20/travel/panama-hats-ecuador.html) (paywall warning, obviously) about a year ago, showing the process of making them. Some of the best ones take five months to weave. (From the article, “Panama hats are uniquely Ecuadorean, despite their curious misnomer. The term ‘Panama hat’ has been in use since at least the 1830s, and came about because the hats were often sold in trading posts on the Isthmus of Panama, which was a shipping crossroads long before the canal was built.”) ---

I guess if you ask for a buck, you might get a quarter, but ask for a twenty and maybe you’ll get something worthwhile. (Not sure now, this was 30 years ago, but I _think_ this is the same homeless guy who got doused with gasoline and torched one cold winter night.) ---
