Fuck the weather channel! They only keep talking about weather in London and maybe whether it will rain in Vermont tomorrow. What I really want to know is if my island is going to get pounded by this tropical storm churning through the Caribbean now. ---

If all the weather channel did was show the local weather, their viewership would consist of people tuning in to find out the weather, then turning the channel off 5 minutes later. Not a winning business model. If you want people to stay tuned, to have to talk about something interesting. This is a challenge, since they’re talking about weather. So, they focus on storms, current events, have meteorological themed shows. Things to attract the weather-phile. Sure, you throw in the occasional local forecast, just to keep them grounded, make sure they don’t get taken by surprise, and forget their umbrella. It would be a rather poor weather-lover who didn’t know rain was on the way. ---

in almost everywhere in the USA you can hear weather from the weather bureau (part of NOAA) on a weather radio. these are good for accurate day to day use and can be lifesaving during severe weather. every home should have one, ideally with an alarm function. if you can get broadcast TV, in many areas at least one station will have a constant local weather channel ---
