That sounds sadly like when MTV2 came out and everyone said, “yeah, MTV doesn’t play videos anymore, but go to MTV2; they have them!” and now MTV2 is the same as MTV. ---

That reminds me, the ABC affiliate here had their own 24/7 local weather channel but lately all I’ve seen listed on is is “Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures”. ---

I used to have Time-Warner Cable, which had a 24-hour local news and weather channel, but I recently switched to DirecTV. The only thing I’ve found there so far with 24/7 weather is something they call Active which, while it does show local weather, makes me listen to a very annoying movie clip quiz. I’ll have to see if I can find something else. ---

Seeing as the new president of the Weather Channel created _Double Dare_, I was expecting messy weather-related game shows. I guess since the Weather Channel is now an NBC-Universal subsidiary, they’re doing the same thing they did over at SciFi…er, SyFy: cheesy movies that have to do with weather! ---

I did a doubletake on _Misery_, until I remembered the snowstorm. But the snowstorm isn’t really that important to the movie…the obsessed fan is. Well, I guess if the SciFi (excuse me, _SyFy_) Channel can show _Braveheart_, Weather Channel can show a movie where a character asks “Is it raining yet?” and call it good. ---

_The Lion in Winter, Legends of the Fall, Summer of '42, Manon of the Spring, The Sun Also Rises, Some Like it Hot, Cool Hand Luke, A Man for All Seasons._ It was bad enough when How Weather Changed History or some other hour long crap precluded Local on the 8s and the other content devoted to actually informing you in real time what was happening that could have a bearing on your hourly or daily activities. But this… this forecast’s no good at all. ---

It got bought, and the new execs, as usual, figure out that the strategy that built the channel can’t possibly be any good, so they show movies. My wife is a major junkie, even in the Bay Area where we pretty much just have climate, but she often flips to it, sees it is showing the latest people floating down the street show, and turns it off in disgust.
