Someone here recommended [Medium-Large](http://www.medium-large.com/) a few weeks ago and I got hooked on it.
There is also that one set in medieval times. The dirty one with all the sex. Yeah, I like that one, too.

What’s that weird pornograhic one we have a thread about now? I can’t find the thread…but the first one is about a guy’s spunk that comes to life…and the second one is Fountain of Doubt.

PvP and Shortpacked! are favorites of mine, but there is sometimes a lot of history behind the characters, such that jumping in can take a while.

[cat and gir](http://catandgirl.com/)l - a little obtuse, a little preachy, but no more than Dinosaur comics. Always thoughtful and usually funny. A lot of hipster musings.
[dresdencodak/](http://dresdencodak.com/) xkcd with gorgeous art. Does go off on a ridiculous storyline, and doesn’t update often, but his good ones are among the top.
[toothpaste for dinner](http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/) updates daily, crude art, but usually funny observational humor.
I’ll second or third saturday morning breakfast cereal, hark! a vagrant, marmaduke explained, Brawl in the family, and pictures for sad children.

[Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal](http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=1348). Sometimes funny, sometimes not, but always offensive and juvenile. Most definitely NOT high-brow stuff. Updated so often you can forgive the unfunny days. Mouseover the red dot for the bonus message.
[Amazing Superpowers](http://www.amazingsuperpowers.com/2009/06/anniversary/). Speaks for itself. Also, hover your mouse over the upper right corner of the comic(just outside, in fact), you will see a question mark to the secret alternate comic.

[http://achewood.com/](http://achewood.com/) has story arcs but it is really seriously awesome enough to (possibly) change your mind. Really bizarre and surreal but not just to be weird. It is very creative.

That’s another one I try to read every day; a link from there led me to [A Doemain of Our Own](http://www.doemain.com/index.cgi/1999-04-24), which has ceased being updated after nine years. Be advised that some Doemain strips aren’t exactly SFW. Doemain led me to [Misty the Mouse](http://www.mistythemouse.com/TheLiveIn_Misty20010103.html), which supposedly is still being updated…very…slowly.

Another person who’s just realizing how many webcomics I read are story-based.
But a couple of possiblities: [Edible Dirt](http://eddirt.frozenreality.co.uk/) and [Lucid TV](http://www.lucid-tv.com/) - both tasteless but often funny. (Lucid TV is an archive - the strip’s been on “hiatus” since June.)

If you’re a techie (and _not_ a Microsoft fan), check out[Joy of Tech](http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/index.html) (caution: lots of Apple fanboy content).
I know you said you’re not into the story arcs, but I do love [User Friendly](http://www.userfriendly.org/), which follows a small Internet service provider in Canada. The main characters are the tech support folks, a self-aware mobile computer, “Dust Puppy” (an animated dustball), and several of the Old Gods from the Cthulhu mythos (including Cthulhu himself).
Note on User Friendly: The current story arc is about a man with cancer. It’s not really typical. Try going back a year or two to get a feel for it. Or do as I do and go all the way back to the beginning.
