# Website Design for Business

Once in a while I read books by entrepreneurs who launched successful web based businesses. They often say something along the lines of “I came up with a good idea but knew little about computers and paid (some person from Romania or business in India) several hundred (or a few thousand) dollars to build (design/manage) a website or phone app. Details tend to be sparse.
1. Is it really easy to outsource all your IT stuff to India? I don’t doubt the expertise. Is it really that easy and problem free to do?
2. Has anyone here ever done this or been part of a company that has? How did it go?
3. Is it that much of a savings to do this compared to supporting local ITs? One would think it easier to address problems locally, but obviously computer stuff can be done remotely.
4. Is this a very popular choice? I read about it more than I see it, but the health field has different concerns.

I used to browse [this](https://www.peopleperhour.com/) site (PeoplePerHour) for potential jobs, but
always lost out to the low fees asked for and the superior experience of people
from all over the world.
So, yes. It’s easy and cheap.

I opened up an Indian subsidiary this year, largely to deal with the talent shortage and wage pressure here as well as to help with our overnight jobs.
The biggest difference is the salary range. My country lead is ex-IBM and his salary is comparable to here. A new hire out of university is about 1/6 of a comparable Canadian salary, but needs a lot of support from more experienced people.
We now have 5-6 people on the Indian team, I’m still not sure if the overhead and dealing with Indian government and banking bureaucracy is worth it.

I’ve worked with Indian developers in the past. I’ve found it quite simple, they speak english, and have strong skills. I also have an amazing photography retoucher I use in Latvia! Really, these days, if they speak English and aren’t in an incompatible time zone, there’s really no reason not to look beyond your own borders for the right talent. We all spend all day on Zoom anyway.
