Website Outerplaces.com: Physicists Claim that Consciousness Lives in Quantum State After Death

I’ve got some excellent sources. Sadly they’re all written in reptilian, so, soz mate. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is not my problem that you claim to support science but in the end you do resort to boiler plate defenses of woo, what you have here is also the very old full of woo idea that scientists are like the religious people.

Once again Tim Minchin explained it better:

[QUOTE] **Storm:** "You're so sure of your position But you're just closed-minded I think you'll find Your faith in science and tests Is just as blind As the faith of any fundamentalist.”"

Tim: "Hmm, that’s a good point, let me think for a bit…
Oh wait, my mistake, it’s absolute bullshit.
Science adjusts its beliefs based on what’s observed
Faith is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved.

Well you’re throwing the word “woo” around like it really means something. You know there are perfectly good words in dictionaries other than the Urban Dictionary. “woo” is a cult word some bored teenager made up, I’m not in the cult, I don’t follow the cult creed or leaders, and I don’t attend the cult ceremonies. English is my best language try that instead.

It is not hard for me to see what he is going for, if there is no good defense or evidence for quantum states that keep us alive after death then the next best thing is to press the idea that the science that is not finding evidence for it should be suspect.

It is ok to be skeptic (eternal vigilance and all that) but not to the level that it should demand that the baby should be tossed out with the bathwater.

And this, by my experience is also like a godwin, you are out of ideas too when you are left only with the option of complaining about the grammar of an opponent.

No, MrQwertyasd, you do have to provide a citation. You’re just wasting our time otherwise. What are you talking about?

You’re saying that his point is that scientists are in a conspiracy to suppress evidence for consciousness outside of a brain?

MrQwertyasd, is that correct? Have you been listening to too much Alex Tsakiris?

“Quantum Leap” was a pretty good show…

Well, I can go for that possibility, but I was going for my impression that he is following FUD; Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt to give the impression that science is full of scientists that follow ignorance or self interests too, so he can declare that it is ignorance that prevents them from finding the “truth”. I do think that he is ignoring a lot of evince that points that when science is ignored it is not the scientists the ones that are at fault, the problem is the engineers and the powerful that willfully ignore the warnings of science.

Others cannot help to notice the impression that he is leaving them too:

Mr. MrQwertyasd  is invited to his roast over here:

Why your hatred of engineers? How can anyone claim that scientists are more altruistic than engineers? And in a “how many does it take to change a lightbulb” contest, I’d bet on the engineer…

“Woo” is a cult word? And what cult would that be?

And just to head off any more of your wild reimaginings, the word “woo” was coined by James Randi as slang term for “pseudoscience”. He was an adult at the time, not a teenager, and he didn’t belong to any cult.

Kind of a childish word for an adult to coin. Yup, cult like.

WTF? Do you even know the meaning of the word “cult”?

Sorry I didn’t realise that science was one great charitable endeavour. I thought it was full of intensely competitive people chasing salaries and often spouting garbage to keep the gravy coming - just like anyone else. My mistake.

I’m afraid I do.

Yes, it is. Thank you for acknowledging it as such.

Your grammar is fine (apart from the occasional dropped capitalisation). That’s not a complaint about grammar. I mean, really, you’re heading for a Dunning-Kruger award here.

Then what is it, according to you?

Very childish question.
