Weed v. Booze

Dunno bout that, but I’ve heard of a man named Al Cohol who was arrested for drunk driving.

Certainly there have been car accidents where weed was involved, but only a handful; alcohol, on the other hand, is responsible for 20,000 vehicle deaths per year, half the annual total. Studies have also shown that regular users of marijuana actually drive better while stoned!

Another thing – not only is alcohol far more addictive than weed, it is one of the few drugs that can kill you if you stop taking it suddenly.

I just want to point out that this is somewhat of a misleading statistic. While it is true that far more accidents are caused by drunk drivers, one has to take into account the disparity in usage. Depending on your definition of “regular user”, the percentage of people in the US who regularly use marijuana varies between about 5% and 8%, whereas the similar statistic for alcohol users varies between about 60-70%. Still, it appears that an alcohol-intoxicated driver is much more likely to be involved in a serious car accident than on who is intoxicated on marijuana, though exact figures are difficult to nail down.

Since you’re all here, can I get an opinion/factual answer here. . .

What’s my best way to get marijuana into me if I don’t want to affect my lungs as it pertains to aerobic fitness – the amount of lung “capacity” or oxygen delivery or whatever that I need to be runner/cyclist/swimmer.

Just how damaging is weekly use of joints/bowls/bongs in this regard?

How damaging is the vaporizer (which I’ve used, but don’t own)? These seem to be an effective THC transport system but can still get ya coughin’, clown.

Will THC dissolve in, say, olive oil that I could spread on bread?

Trying to stay legal here. . .not looking for opinions on how to obtain it/hide it/traffic it. Just looking for a good way to ingest it. In some states, it seems, once you HAVE it, you’re allowed to smoke it. You’re just not allowed to get it.

A vaporizer, as mentioned previously, is probably your best option. Since it doesn’t burn the material when properly used, it avoids the issues involved with inhaling particulate matter, and cuts down on the number of chemicals you inhale, limiting this to mostly volatiles, like water and THC. AFAIK, it’s the safest alternative, besides something like Marinol capsules or eating it.

There is considerable dispute in this area, though there is a fair body of evidence that typical marijuana use is much less damaging to the lungs than typical cigarette use. There are at least some good studies which indicate the long-term risk of lung cancer, for example, is much lower for marijuana use than that for cigarette smoking, even given heavy usage. Arguably, inhaling anything that involves combustion and the resultant slew of combustion byproducts and particulate matter is not the best way to treat your lungs, however.

See above. It’s not a perfect system, but arguably it is better than traditional smoking. Still, you’re inhaling substances your lungs weren’t designed specifically to handle, so health problems are still a possibility.

Yes, THC is highly lipophilic and fat-soluble. A more appetizing recipe involves “stewing” the substance in question in melted butter, then straining out the plant material. Look up recipes for “pot butter” or “cannabutter” on Google.

So far in this thread, I haven’t seen any physical dangers listed at all for ingesting marijuana or hashish in tea, brownies, butter, or the like. If we leave out the whole smoking issue, are there any dangers other than

a) it’s illegal, and

b) it impairs reaction times, concentration, and such, making it dangerous to operate equipment or drive under the influence

Why not read about it yourself at Erowid?

All-in-all it is a fascinating plant regardless of the intoxicating effects. Food, fuel, medicine, fiber (cloth, rope, etc) and political hot-plate…That’s some heavy shit, man!

I think that an up-to-date, workable study would destroy the Anti-drug campaign policies in place today.
We can’t possibly know the full benefit until after the legalization phase has taken hold. I saw a study years ago from the guy selling phototron closet grow rooms that stated “Marijuana has one of the highest respiratory rates of any plant.” Imagine, one third the crop size, with 10 times the oxygen output. Is that possible?
As for alcohol and tobacco, they feel threatened. How much revenue has been lost to the California Grower, (God Bless them!). That is not right…It is illegal, (they bellow). Especially, tobacco, what, with all those expensive court costs from killing so many people over the years, how can we compete?, they whine.
People will not need to smoke and drink two separate items, when they can get it in the convienient package of one.
