Weekly Comic Book Discussion 1/24/2008

Supergirl was personally invited, true, but there were other candidates as well, which (unless they too were by invitation only, and I see no reason to assume it) makes it an open tryout. This would be in contrast to Superboy’s invitation in Adventure # 247, where it seems to be a special Superboy tryout session, as no other candidates are in evidence.

Messiah Complex has probably been the true, final nail in the coffin for me as an X-books reader. I’m a hardcore X-fan going back to the original Claremont days, but this is just an embarrassment at this point. Every person acting completely, ridiculously out of character and out of 20+ years of continuity in order to serve the plot, comically one-dimensional sub-fanfic level creations (Predator X - “uhh…he’s like, a big monster that like, eats mutants and uhh, only lives to eat mutants and stuff.” X-23 - “She’s like chick Wolverine, man.” etc.), and of course Professor X is dead again. This is truly the lowest point that I’ve seen in these books in at least 30 years, and that’s really saying something given the mid-nineties. :frowning:

I’ll probably regret asking this (since I ran screaming from most X- and Marvel-related stuff once Clairemont took over Exiles), but…

Aren’t there, like, only 200 mutants left? How could Mr. “Predator X” get along if he/it only exists to eat mutants? Or maybe he/it is living off the “and stuff”… sigh

DOESNT MATTER STUPID ONE-DIMENSIONAL CREATION MEANT TO BE “EDGY” AND “COOL” WITHOUT ANY THOUGHT OR CREATIVITY

Ah, yes, of course. :smack: Don’t know what came over me for a bit.
