I’m overweight and when I’m in a skirt, I cross my legs at the ankles. My legs aren’t fat, but they’re short, so the full leg-crossing thing doesn’t feel right.
Right now I’m sitting in a half-lotus, which is probably my default seating position. It probably doesn’t look comfortable, but it is.
Could you start an “ask the…” thread - if handled relatively sensitively by other posters that could be really interesting!
I’m pretty severely underweight (20 lbs. or so) and I cross my legs almost all the time. I get cold easily and I find that it helps.
I have a normal BMI (22.5 and fairly muscular, about normal body fat) and usually cross my legs, but in the lotus position or Indian-style instead of knee over knee (which I can do just fine, but I can’t do it at the computer since the desk/keyboard tray is in the way). Also, I am rather short, which may influence things.
I seldom cross my legs, but I do enjoy crossing other peoples’ legs.
mmm
If you’re interested, feel free to PM me with any questions. I’m not shy and I won’t get offended. But I don’t feel there’s enough general interest in a fat person thread here–it’s not that rare for posters to be overweight here (at 5’3 and 300 lbs, I’m not even close to the fattest poster on the board). I don’t really feel that anyone’s experiences being fat are unusual enough to warrant a thread, though. It’d mostly just be listing shit we can’t do quite as well as thin people (or at all), or the discrimination we face. That’s not interesting or thread-worthy, it’s depressing.
Agreed. Half-lotus is my default position too. It’s so comfortable and distributes one’s weight so evenly. But I only do it at home, or visiting close friends, lest the public see it as too freaky.
Never been able to cross my legs for very long. They just don’t move that way, and my knees are stressed any way I do it. My joints don’t allow much twist.
ETA: Overweight now. But even when I was kid nicknamed Stringbean it didn’t work right.
