That is not true at all, IIRC my chemistry. While the total volume of the two components will be greater than the volume of the mixture, it is incorrect to assert that the solvent will displace no volume.
Keep in mind that solutions don’t have to be liquid…

Mass (approximateley, notwithstanding differences according to temperature etc): 1 kilogram
