It’s kind of amusing seeing all the media conservatives who are now feigning outrage at "the _lying_. Their policy on lying seems to have shifted since a certain somebody totally fabricated a story about a certain country having certain weapons. ---

He’s fucked. Even if it blows over by Thursday, the internet is quick click away and that shit don’t go away. He couldn’t propose a bill in favor of fluffy bunnies and cute kitty cats without Republican’s standing up and shouting, “Liar! What about the weiner, Weiner?” Only slightly more stupid that shooting pics of his junk to internet-honies was fucking lying about it. If he admitted right off the bat, it might have slid off the campaign videos. He has cemented his name on the right’s shit-list – and probably rightly so. But of course, I’ve already proved I’m not above school-boy humor, so I’d also like to ridicule his apology: Quoth Weiner: “To be clear, the picture was of me, and I sent it. I’m deeply sorry for the pain this has caused my wife, and our family, my constituents, my friends, my supporters **and my staff** …” Yes, his staff did look it might have been in pain in that picture. ---

In all honesty, this is a non-story. Or at least it should have been and would have been if he didn’t make up some ridiculous story to begin with. Should he resign? I don’t think so. He didn’t do anything illegal or anything to compromise his ability to perform the job given to him. Whatever happens now is really between him and his wife. Edit: I do believe Democrats were also on the WMD boat, so try not to fool yourself, okay? ---

I’d like to see him stay in office but I don’t see how that’s possible. Pelosi just announced there would be an ethics probe to see if Weiner “used any congressional resources” in his cyber-sexcapade, and I just read the following statement from one of his facebook ladies that was interviewed by ABC: “Then I asked him to pick up the phone and call me. I had to hang up because of something that was happening on my end, but then I called back and heard a voice saying, “Congressman Anthony Weiner’s office,” so I hung up.” Seems like pretty clear cut (if anecdotal) evidence that resources were used. ---

I don’t really have much of a horse in this race, but I do want to add this comment: I’m glad that this fell apart for him, not only for the lying thing (which irks me when -anyone- does it), but also because it’s an example of “Oh, I got hacked! The ebil ebil haxxors!” thing that just didn’t stand. As a culture, we’re getting more internet savvy, and the quicker that boogieman gets tossed aside the better. (I’m not saying hacking doesn’t happen, but I dislike people who just point at the internet, say, ‘hackers!’ and expect everyone to just nod their heads sadly and believe that the mysterious ‘them’ of hackers did whatever bad thing happened.) ---

When Sen. Vitter (R-LA) gets up to address the Senate, do his colleagues say, “Hey, someone change Diaperboy! He’s cranky!”? If not, then I think Weinerboy will be okay. Sending junk shots is way more respectable than paying a prostitute to change your diaper. ---
