I think “Apple” is a nice name. I don’t know why it’s often dragged in as the poster-child for “stupid” celebrity names. I don’t think it’s any weirder than Ruby or Daisy, which are old names and we’ve just gotten used to them, or even Dakota, which has become surprisingly common in the last fifteen years.

Bruce Willis’s daughter Rumer shares her first name with author Rumer Godden. I don’t know if she was named _after_ her or if it’s a “real” but uncommon name. I haven’t heard of any other Rumers.

No, Buddy Bear is his much-coveted son.

Feh. Most of them live in California and their kids need weird names so they don’t stand out in school. You wouldn’t believe how much crap a Bob gets in Hollywood High.

My favorite is still Shiloh Pitt. The Spoonerism is unavoidable.

Of that list, I don’t really see anything wrong with Ireland, Coco, Sage, Kingston, Zuma, Harlow, or Suri. Unusual, yes, but not in a bad way. Not on the same level as “Jermajesty” or “Pilot Inspektor.”

Of course, it’s gotten to the point now where I’m shocked if celebrities don’t name their children something unique/strange/awful. Like, there was days of speculation after Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen had their baby because they couldn’t decide on a name and then they went with “Benjamin.” And Brady’s other kid is named “John.” I mean, how normal and boring is that?

Let’s start with the basics.

Can we all at least agree there’s no excuse for naming a kid Crimefighter?

I, too, do not understand by “Apple” is dragged into these discussions. It’s unusual, but not particularly so; it follows a very long tradition of girls’ names being inspired by flora, it’s simple, easily spelled, and sounds feminine. It’s not in the same class as “Audio Science,” “Pilot Inspektor” or the kid at my daughter’s school named Cappucino. I’d add the same thing for Sage Stallone; I think it’s a bad name but it’s not ridiculous. Nor are “Suri” or “Willow” - in fact, Willow’s kind of nice.

Add another positive vote for Apple. I’ve always liked it. And I think Sunday Rose is one of the most beautiful names I’ve ever heard. I also like Egypt, Zuma, Coco, Suri, Moxie as a first name (forget the 2nd), Harlow, Ireland and Destry.

There’s also the fact that if you combine the first names with the mddle names you get a lot of extra weirdness that you wouldn’t get in everyday life.

So “Pilot Inspektor” is just “Pilot” which is weird but not fucking weird. Lop off the middle names and almost all of these wouldn’t raise an eyebrow in a modern kindergarden.

Yep, though Tallulah’s fondness for taking off her clothes at parties, though past her prime\*, might suggest that name was not to be associated with a child.

-
  - Haven’t found the yet quote yet, but a friend of hers once said, “Tallulah, you have such lovely frocks! Why don’t you put one on?” Then there was the Chico Marx conversation.

Audio Science?
You have to be kidding me.
Many of the others sound reasonable.
But dangit, don’t name your kid something that sounds a corporation name.
I suppose the child will go by Audie which is OK.

And Pilot Inspektor is horrible.
Can you imagine going by Pilot? What’s your nickname? Pile? Piley? Egads.

Of course being stuck with the name of Gagundathar The Inexplicable has perhaps made me a bit sensitive. Maybe some projection as they say.

“Apple” is weird to me because I’ve only ever heard it (once!) used as a man’s name, and he was an old man, and his last name was St. Stephen, so it was a really odd combination.

I don’t think a lot of these are that odd, and let’s face it, these kids are all going through life with each other as friends, so they won’t think it’s weird either.

Yeah, I think some of these names are terrible and some are unusual and distinctive, and some of them are not even that unusual. And they will get more common as peons name their children after the children of celebrities, i.e., “Destry! What a cool name.”

I’m Australian, and while I get the reference to “Banjo” Patterson, I’ve never heard of anyone with Banjo as an actual name. It sounds pretty bad to me.

Nicole Kidman is also Australian, and her Sunday was named in honour of [Sunday Reed](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday_Reed). Now, Sunday Reed isn’t all that well known, but to an Australian art lover like me, the name is instantly recognisable. I got that reference as soon as I heard it.

It’s also worth mentioning that Sunday Reed’s original name was, in fact, Lelda Sunday Baillieu and _she_ was given that name in 1905, so it isn’t like a wacky celebrity just invented it. And Sunday is a way better name than “Lelda”.
