Off the cuff, and for the purposes of this thread, let’s define it as “music that doesn’t fit into standard musical genres very well” or music that makes most people go “what the…???”
I became a fan in about 1986. I don’t recall when Home of the Brave came out, but I didn’t know about it until several years after I’d been listening to her albums.
Anybody mentioned Dread Zeppelin? They’re fairly mainstream (for a reggae band who specializes in Led Zep covers and whose lead singer is an Elvis impersonator). A good introduction is the “Un-led-Ed” CD. Much like licorice, anchovies, and the Grateful Dead, you’ll either love this music or hate it immediately.
