In this [post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=1750340#post1750340), for some reason “here” turned into “her e” in the link. Is this a known bug?

That is **wierd**. At least I beleive that to be the definition of the word. Or that’s what I believe. Whatever.
Damn, it’s tough to spell in this language.

[sub]PS I don’t mean to pick on you, RSA, but the last time there was a ‘weird’ thread about half the people misspelled weird in it.[/sub]

And just so you know I am not being a complete anal putz about it, let’s see if we can figure out this problem.

In the second example, I put quotation marks around the URL, which is recommended practice. This solves the problem, although I do admit that I am not sure what causes the problem.

You can, as always, quote this post if you want to see how the coding works.

I fixed it by inserting the quotation marks. I’m surprised it worked at all without them.

Thanks to all for the help. I quit using quotes because I read a post somewhere recently that it was no longer necessary. I’ll use them in the future if I see a problem during preview.

BTW, I was going to apologize for using an uninformative thread title. Didn’t realize that it was uninformative AND mispelled. My bad.

Well, whooosh me if I’ve been woooshed here, but you did spell weird correctly in the title.

It’s I before E except after C, or when it sounds like A as in neighbor or weigh. And weird is just well, you know… different? 😃

The quotation marks have always been part of the Official Format for links in vBulletin (and, I think, UBB, back in the day). What changed was that the vB software became a little more clever at figuring out what you meant, if you left them off, with the result that you could usually get away with it. Don’t rely on that, though: It particularly seems to cause problems when you try to put two links into the same post.
