# Weirdest Collections

**TP605** – how do you get past the LoC’s security checkpoints?? 🙂  
I have a collection of about 100 license plates, most from before 1970. My oldest is a 1914 New Hampshire. My favorites are a 1919 Saskatchewan, 1947 Utah, and a 1941 Tennessee. I even joined a collectors’ group called [ALPCA](http://www.alpca.org).

Does 10,000 empty cigar boxes qualify me?

How about several hundred matchbooks?

Silicon wafers, magnetic core planes, electron multipliers?

Turbomolecular vacuum pump rotors?

Ahhh, I’ve got it.

I save the little metal rings that are on the end of my guitar strings!!!

Bumbazine: I used to collect those too, had them stuck to the inside of a kitchen cabinet door. There is actually a national collectors’ club for these things.

I don’t really collect things, but my larger dog has been working on a collection of candle holders. She gets the empty dog food cans out of the trash, and chews them into tortured, perforated shapes. I have a collection of those that I plan to give as Christmas presents.

And yes, I realise this is probably not a good thing for her to do, so she no longer has access to the cans. I’m trying to get her interested in tole painting now. 🙂

Pilbury Doughboys  
figures of various characters (e.g.-Snoopy, Garfield, Smurf, Goofy, etc.) playing hockey

I’ve got a collection of Indiana Jones stuff  
Mortal Kombat figures, cards, and arcade machines/mother boards  
Motorcycle license plates  
and Iron Maiden posters/cds/shaped LPs/picture LPs most of which are slowly starting to go up on my walls.

as for strange stuff I’ve heard people collecting I’ve heard on the radio people collecting volmit bags and cat wiskers.

In a collection which speaks volumes of my own financial management shortcomings, I have a large bag full of nothing but my own credit card receipts. Since retailers insist on printing the entire card number on them, I daren’t throw them away, lest my pecuniary identity be misassumed and abused by a lout who is not myself. Maybe my next receipt will be for a personal paper shredder…

I’m not much of a collector, but my brother is. The weirdest (to me at least) is his collection of roach clips. He must have about a hundred of them. Some of them are really cool too.

The weirdest collection I ever saw was at a flea market where some guy had a display case full of antigue condom tins. Before then, I never knew they cam in tins (must be a bitch to fit 'em in your wallet). They were extremely ornate, and the artwork was excellent. If I’d had the money, they would have been mine, just because they were so weird.

I collect soap. I don’t think its that wierd, but my friends do. Mostly, I collect soaps that look unique, or smell really good. They are all displayed on my bookcases.

I have a slowly expanding collection of miniature gargoyles. They used to cover my dresser, but now they’re overflowing to the television, computer desk, and the poor computer itself. I’ve gradually moved up to bigger cement gargs, the biggest is only about 15 inches tall. Sometimes next year I will have a (approximately) 5’ high-I can’t wait. Unfortunately it’s going to have to go outside ☹
