# Weirdest name you've encountered lately?

I spent a few days with my cousin’s husband and kids recently. All three of their sons have very odd names. I always thought their daughter had a perfectly normal, if not super common, name. Then I found out they didn’t pick it as a name, they just took the first two letters of his name and the last two letters of her name and mooshed them together and got lucky. Suddenly the normal name had taken a weird turn.

That’s my GP’s first name.
One of my co-workers is named Ephejsia (I _think_ I spelled that correctly - honestly, day-to-day I’m more concerned about pronouncing correctly). In a workplace with multiple Steves, Daves, Toms, Marys, Marias, Carols, Lisas, Sues, Kaylas, etc. she is the one person who doesn’t have to worry about the inevitable confusion that comes from paging over the intercom.
Also have known a women named “Gidget”.

I met a middle schooler named Pandora this morning. Multi-colored hair and an overall goth vibe. But I couldn’t help but think, that is a terrible terrible name. Just the upcoming box jokes alone would kill it for any sane parent. Good luck to you, Pandora. You’re going to need it!

The weirdest name I’ve personally encountered is the kid in my daughter’s preschool called Kylo.
What’s weird is that I don’t think that was ever a real name before _The Force Awakens_, and the Star Wars villain name wasn’t known 4 years ago.

Spoke to a fellow today named Octavius McDonald\*. Nothing too weird about that, but he had a distinct Asian accent…couldn’t pick whether it was Chinese or Korean.
So, strange enough name in itself, but uber strange when it belongs to someone I doubt has connections to either ancient Rome or Glasgow. 😃
\*Have changed the name slightly to preserve anonymity but it was a Mac Scots name.

in today’s paper, there was a photo which featured a Purdue student named Jessica Tandy. I wonder how many of her classmates are aware of the opportunity they have to make “Hey, where’s Hume Cronyn?” jokes.

I have a coworker that recently married and became ‘Jennifer Lawrence’. I kind of envy her because she is now officially impossible to find on the web. I can understand why she took her new husband’s name because her maiden name was very distinctive and rather unattractive.
That is the exact opposite of me. I am the only person with my name in the world despite the fact that an extremely well-known 1980’s movie used my given name at every opportunity and even made jokes about it. People that meet me never get tired of using jokes about that as though they are the first. It is so common, it doesn’t bother me and has become a type of meta-joke on its own.

I won’t actually mention his name, but I know someone who has a very old Jewisih first and last name. He had originally worked at a different location in our company, so I didn’t actually meet him for a long time. It’s common for us to have mental images of people we’ve never met, and my image of him was of a young Matt Craven.
A while back, he transferred to my work location–turns out he’s actually a bona fide Indian from India–and probably has the darkest complexion of any person I’ve ever known. I think I could probably see him at night because of the void in the darkness (sort of like Negative Man from Doom Patrol).

When I was in college in the early 1990s, a woman a couple years ahead of me got married, and considered keeping her maiden name because her married name was going to be Cindy Crawford. She decided to change it anyway, and found out VERY quickly to let her husband order the pizza, among other things. 😛
My parents had some friends (he died a few years ago) named Marge and Homer, although their surname was not Simpson and their daughter was not named Lisa or Maggie.

I recently encountered a little girl whose first name is Tuesday. I am tickled by the fact that it actually was on a Tuesday.
