This pulled my stomach way up into the chest cavity. After several operations the stomach perforated, spilling its contents into the chest cavity and contaminating the area. The resulting infections caused the tissues in the chest cavity to be weak, allowing for the intestines to poke through. That is how the doc explained it to me (just this past Tuesday.) He may have dumbed it down for me, but that is a faithful representation of what he said (I keep a medical journal.) ---

I had my hernia checked about 3 years ago, with an eye to getting it repaired. My surgeon was happy to do it, but felt that the chances of recurrence were pretty high over an extended period of time. Given that it does not give me too much bother for now, I decided to live with it. But surgical techniques and materials are constantly improving. So here is hoping. Si ---
