It hadn’t occurred to me that the Klan disappeared on December 31st, 1999 (or 2000, if you want to get anal about it), so why would this be a surprise? ---

I can’t believe it. That’s all. I really can’t fucking believe it. I thought that after episodes like The Freedom Riders exposed, and various other demonstrations of evolution and understanding, that this couldn’t possibly exist anymore. ---

(shrug) There is an active KKK ranch with a bar/liquor store down the street from where I lived in Georgia; they were extremely open about their activities, and would stand down at the end of their driveway in their robes (no hoods) to direct traffic during the larger events. I’m not even remotely surprised. My former husband, who had a degree in history and did a crap ton of research on the topic, would always point out that the state with the largest amount of registered members of the KKK was Connecticut. Whether or not that’s still true, I don’t know. ---

It was a pretty huge deal actually. Doesn’t make what’s happening in TN right by any stretch of the imagination, but honestly I’m just not surprised by anything that ignorant throwbacks do anymore. ---

When was that? The first Klan was started by Confederate officers, of whom I can’t imagine there were many in CT. The second Klan had its largest membership in Indiana, and then later as the Civil Rights movement heated up, N. Carolina. The SPLC says that Iowa and Mississippi are the two states with the largest modern membership. ---

Hm, I oculd have sworn that historically it was Illinoise or Indiana [one of those northern midwest spots] but this was back before WW2. \ I think they are all nuts, there is no difference in people that is visible through skin, eyes or hair colors.
