Staggerlee–Is that the one “…said to the devil, you want 'm dead or alive?” Dave Van Ronk did that tune real swell. I used to work in an ER. We could swap stories I’m sure. Okay here’s one: An attempted double suicide of a couple like 95 years old. They left a note that they didn’t want to wind up in nursing homes or on life support and they wanted to donate their bodie to blah blah and yada yada. So when their aid showed up they hadn’t “croaked” yet. Needless to say she called 911 and then the paramedics had to do the legal thing which was saving their lives and I’m standing by the busses fruitlessly waving “go back! go back!” which of course they couldn’t do and then we had this couple one on life support and the other heading to a nursing home… I hated that one. > [@Quasimodem](#): > > Much better! You are an example of somebody who needs to STFU. You need to STFU because you are insipid and, um, unsophisticated. When I croak the last damn thing I would need is a post from you. Have you heard the one about the glow in the dark guy who went into a bar… It wasn’t cute but it was hilarious. In 99% of cases, joking about a terminal illness to someone who has one redefines “dick move”. The only circumstance in which someone should even consider risking it is if the person suffering from it jokes about it first. To me it implies that the person has a sense of humor about their situation, gallows humor though it is, and there’s a good chance that they’ve come to terms with what’s happening and what’s going to happen. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I can say that if I ever end up terminally ill, if the price I pay for being able to accept my fate and be ready for it is having a few people make jokes about what I’ve got, then it’s one I gladly pay. That said, even if the person with the illness did joke about it first, I personally still wouldn’t risk it.
