OhdearGAWD. I’m “OFFICIALLY” old. Last Saturday I turned 70. Yeah, seventy. Seven-zero. When I turned 50, it broke my heart. When I turned 60, it hurt my feelings. (Feelings…whoa-oh-oh, feelings…) Now I’m 70. And everything hurts. A good friend of mine that I’ve known since elementary school is several months older than I am. When she turned 70, she said, “Now I can say I survived the Sixties…twice!” (You have to be old to understand that!) Mr VOW bought me a cane for my birthday. I said, “Oh, good! Now I have something to beat you over the head with!” I vote for the 2020s to be “The Roaring WTFs.” That’s just perfect! ~VOW ---

The key to turning 70 (which I did in July) is to have all your friends be as old as you, or older. Failing that, go to the opera. Everyone there will be older than you. ---

I listen to classical music during the day when I’m working, just so I can be REALLY sure that it’s “classic.” I remember the first time I heard a classic rock station playing GNR. “That’s not classic rock! I saw them in concert 20 years agooooooooooh, I get it.” ---

Happy belated birthday, -VOW!!. My Daddy was a playa til he died age 89. He went to dance class Went Dancing regularly. Full garden, every year. Went to the horse track everyday! Smart, computer literate. Knew more than I ever will about tech-y stuff. Surprisingly could work his smart phone. Managed his rental properties. Never hired workmen. Active, Feisty, and bossy, interested in life. The big one was the strange Women at his funeral, crying so pitifully. My sister’s were mortified. I laughed and laughed. Age is in your mind. But I do feel your pain, sister o’ mine! ---

My first year in high school (1970), a frequent question among my peers was “Have you got the new Carly Simon album yet?” For purposes of educating my daughter, I immediately called up “You’re So Vain” on YouTube. So I am listening to American Top 40 on Sirius XM as I type. December 11,1971. I remember all the songs. Radio was a big deal when I was in the 8th grade and then I think that these songs are all over 50 years old. I just don’t feel like I am that old. ---

Two events recently made me feel old. I was talking to the tech support guy around the time that Don Everly died(I was bummed). I knew he probably wouldn’t know who Don Everly was unless he was really into vintage music, so I asked him if he liked old music and he said yes he did. I said the really old stuff? He said yeah the really old stuff, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I wish I could have reached through the phone and beat him with my cane. 😜 The other incident happened just last week when my early twenties nephew told me he was getting gray hair already. Geez Louise! ---
