I have wanted a Kitchen-Aid for years. Years. But the price and the weight and the where would I store it kept me from buying one. The other night I noticed a small corner in the kitchen, out of the way, that would fit a small cart on wheels. And on top of that cart would fit a Kitchen-Aid. And I found the outlet that I will use when I wheel it over to the food prep area. Now I just have to decide on the model and color.
I got the biggest one I could of the bowl lift Kitchenaid mixers non-commercial variety; I think it is rated for 14 cups of flour. It is awesome and we do use it a lot. Many loaves of homemade bread, cakes, candies, dip, cookies, etc. it seems like the right choice. There are times when we really put it to capacity. I love the grinder and food mill as well. One of the deciding factors was the bowl handle looked more comfortable than the other models.
We had another and part of the chrome came off and we over taxed the motor so often it seemed like it was not going to last that much longer. The new one has a place in the center of my kitchen table and it really earns its keep. Mine is white, as is my fridge and stove.
I bought a Cuisinart 7 quart to replace my Kitchenaid. The Kitchenaid had a smaller bowl and bogged down with pizza dough and a wouldn’t allow a doublebatch of cookies. The Cuisinart has 1000W of power. I’ve done my deep dish pizza dough in it and it cut through the dough like it wasn’t there. I’m a kitchenaid fan, but this unit is really a step above. Similar price, too.
My heart is set on the KA 6 qt. I loved my first KA so much I wore it out. It’s still sitting in a cupboard in my kitchen because I can’t bear to say goodbye yet. My husband swears he can rebuild it, but I just want a new one.
I guess all I really have to say that is pertinent to the thread is that ya’ done good. You’re going to love it. the blue is very pretty. I heartily second the recommendation to make fudge with yours. Fudge is just lovely when whipped in a KA mixer.
Then of course you have to make bread, cheesecake, cake without a mix (very much a pain to do with a hand mixer), cookies . . . .
Actually, I made my very first from-scratch cake last month. I just used a human-powered wire whisk.
I was making cakes with a hand mixer, unassisted except for oven usage, at the age of six. Not hard at all, seriously.
Damn!
I have a Bosch Universal. It’ll do up to 7 loaves of bread without straining. I also have a Bosch compact, which easily does two loaves. And I have a Wolfgang Puck, which is 800 watts, but doesn’t have the available attachments of a Bosch. And I have a Braun Multi-mix hand mixer, which is very handy.
I kind of have a mixer obsession. My two cents worth is that there isn’t a better mixer on the market than the Bosch Universal.

I got the KA pro 5 for the holidays. In the bright red, of course. It works great and is so pretty sitting on the counter. I’m glad to hear about the ice cream attachment. I’m getting one right away!
I just came in here to tell everyone that there is a screw under the mixer head that adjusts the height of the paddle!
I learned this last week and it changed my life. All this time I thought there was something wrong with me.
If you put the tilt head up, there is a screw hidden underneath, it can be hard to see. Turning it slightly one way or another adjusts where the paddle will ultimately sit. So if you find that you have a big pile of butter in the bottom when making cookies, or cream doesn’t quite whip right, you can lower the mixer head until the paddle is at the right place.
I looked around the internet at these, and it does look like one heck of a mixer, with a lot of great attachments as well. I was dismayed that such a well-designed machine had a food processor attachment that was so small, however. I would love to use it to replace the food processor and blender, but with a processor capacity of only 5 cups, there is no way it woudl be big enough to handle a lot of kitchen tasks.
