Stop in at the mall and try a Happy Joe’s pizza (I’d recommend the Taco Joe) After you’ve seen the fair, zoo, and mall… well, you’ve done everything there is to do in Minot. ---

According to Yahoo! Maps, Hoople is in the northeastern corner of North Dakota. Peter Schickelie is often credited as Professor of Music Pathology at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople (USNDAH). The have a killer campus radio station (WOOF – “Double-U, Double-O, F – Hoople!”) ---

Minot. Something to do in. _pause, crickets chirping_ _falls down laughing_ Minot is the kind of place where you have to make your own fun, or drive to other areas. (Minneapolis for instance.) But there is a really good old meat shop on old highway… 2? I think? Semi-near the fairgrounds. Anyway, it has really good beef jerky, cheap. The pepper jerky is enough to cause coughing fits. 😃 There’s also a surprisingly good Chinese buffet there (a few, owned by the same family): they even had lychees (canned) available on the fruit bar. And, try [this](http://www.ohwy.com/nd/s/scahercp.htm): the Scandinavian Heritage Center & Park, if you like that kind of thing. Beyond that? Well… Hmmm. There’s 4 Bears Casino over by New Town… Lots of pretty farm land to look at… not much else, unless you wanna wave hello to my Grandma and other assorted relatives. 😉 * * * \<\< Help support helpless victims of computer error. \>\> ---

There is at least one sex shop, and you can meet interesting people while trying to find a place to buy beer late at night. Other than that, try to find a hotel with a pool. ---

_The local expert on Minot, ND checks in:_ The ND State Fair is one of two massive-huge events in that town. The Norsk Hostfest is the other one (aka. the “Worlds Largest Gathering of Scandanavian Geriatrics”). Unfortunately, I’ve just moved from there to Great Falls, Montana this past weekend. You missed be by a week or so. The town actually has gotten a hell of a lot better in the past few years. We now have an Irish pub (“Ebeneezers”), a fully-functional Taco Bell, and a smattering of other bars and stuff within walking distance. If you’re looking for culture, just keep moving on. It’s a farming town, and there’s really not much in the way of sights to see. Minot AFB is still there, but it’s no longer SAC (SAC stood down back in '91), it’s ACC (Air Combat Command). It’s pretty cool, since they have B-52 bombers _and_ Minuteman Missiles–two legs of the nuclear triad. And I’ll leave you on that last note. That’s about the only interesting trivia about Minot. The summers are a hoot, but only for those few weeks. If you’ve got specific questions, fire me an e-mail at my addy in my profile. I’ll (hopefully) be back in town on the weekend of August 2nd, and I should be in _very_ livacious form. :dubious: Tripler Man, not having internet access sucks. There is the giant buffalo in Jamestown, if you want to see a giant something. There may also be a giant chicken somewhere in the state. I’ve only been to Minot once, and all I saw was the inside of Sears. There was a McDonalds’s nearby, if that helps. Heck, come to Grand Forks, where we have. . .shopping. I think that’s our big attraction, to lure the Canadians to spend their money here. ---
