Yeah, you lost me there.

Brian Molko from Placebo is bisexual… Do you really need more explicit detail?

A few years ago, some brand of television was using The Beatles’ “Getting Better” in TV commercials. The “it’s getting better all the time” part was chopped off just before “it can’t get much worse”. I can only assume their target audience was not Beatles fans.

> While waiting in line at Chipotle a couple of years ago, I heard Blue Oyster Cult’s “Godzilla” play over the restaurant’s sound system, which struck me as just a little out of character. 🙂

While doing my grocery shopping at Safeway a few years ago, I suddenly realized I was hearing Black Sabbath’s _Paranoid_ over the sound system. Wasn’t expecting that. Not complaining, though; I worked at Safeway many years earlier, when the in-store music was cheesy, canned Muzak. Nothing like having to listen to _[Java](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq5wgSVzHrU)_ and \* [Spanish Flea](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z0pP8FqYvk)\* every single day.

Ah, but if you know the musical, you know there are several versions of “Let Me Entertain You,” with several different titles and the same melody. The first (titled “My We Entertain You”) [is sung by Baby June.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQBzaRHIdI). So it’s perfectly appropriate for children to sing.

Looks like. The point of the song is the difference in gender experiences during sex (“I’ll make a deal with God and get him to swap our places.”) Two guys don’t need divine intervention to swap places; neither do two girls. Nor does a guy typically have to reassure his partner he’s not crying out in pain (Do you want to know, know that it doesn’t hurt me). So the singer being a bisexual male is relevant because?

There’s equal difference between being a top and bottom in gay sex… And the lyrics make no reference to gender.

Basically, anal sex does often hurt for the receiver, but that doesn’t stop it being pleasurable, and doesn’t mean that crying out is because of the pain, or because they want it to stop. Also, not all gay or bi men both give and receive, so it’s quite possible that they wouldn’t know exactly what the other is experiencing. It makes perfect sense to me, as a bi male, that another bi male would sing and mean that song.

She didn’t sing “May We Entertain You.” She sang “Let Me Entertain You”. Complete with burlesque choreography.

And again, it doesn’t take a deal with God for two people of the same gender to swap positions and experience the different roles equally. It seems a simple “babe, my turn” would suffice. While Kate didn’t specify her gender, the context makes it pretty clear, which is _why_ swapping the gender of the singer muddies the context of the lyrics, and… I’m back where I started. So can we agree to disagree and get off this crazy thing?

Ha!
Thought I’d check back to see if anyone else had offered anecdotes of amusingly out-of-place music, and instead I find that the conversation has switched to discussions of burlesque and gender swapping!

Mmmmokayyyy . . .

You wouldn’t believe how often I’ve heard ‘private dancer’ by Tina Turner in places where ou can get these kinds of dances… well more really. I’m sure they just looked at the title and forgot about the rest of the lyrics.

You expected something else?😕

Friskies cat food once used Dave Mason’s “Feelin’ Alright” for their commercial, showing cats happily playing. Of course, the song is a properly titled “Feelin’ Alright?” and is a rather bitter breakup song (in the first to choruses). They only sang the song title, not the next line “I’m not feelin’ too good myself.”
