The Doors. I like almost all the classic rock bands from their era, and acknowledge that they were groundbreaking like many of their peers, but I never really was able to get into their music. And Morrison wrote shitty, pretentious lyrics. ETA: oh, another one, Billy Joel. He’s the poor man’s Elton John, his best songs sound like Elton’s worst. ---

The Grateful Dead. Buncha stoners who smoke their own weight in MJ and can’t play the same song twice the same way. And the fans love it. And Shade of Grey is one of my two remaining “gofer” tunes. (when it comes on the radio, you gofer the knob as fast as you can.) ---

I love jam band music in general: String Cheese Incident is my favorite band these days (and right now I’m packing to see them play 6 sets in a 3-day festival this weekend); I like Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, JRAD, moe., Widespread Panic, Tedeschi Trucks, and lots more. So I “should” like Phish but I don’t. I think their lyrics are unremittingly stupid and I just can’t get into Trey’s guitar playing. I was so disappointed when he was chosen to play lead guitar in the Grateful Dead’s last 5 shows, and IMHO his incompetent playing totally ruined those shows. ---

When that came out, my roommate and I thought as a double album it was bloated. So we made a tape, just cutting each song down to 3-5 minutes. IMO, it woulda been a completely kickass single album. Definitely on the list of musicians I appreciated more before they became popular. Same with Rush. Bought all of their albums through All the World’s a Stage, then none after. If you don’t like Geddy’s voice, well, there’s no disputing taste. But it is hard to dispute the musicianship of all 3. Another NOT Dead fan (my wife is). And that stupid Touch of Grey is horrible. ---

U2 and Pink Floyd. I liked the Doobies until someone decided that Michael McDonald could sing. Mush-mouthed fucker. All Emo crap. Most modern day female “singers” who can’t carry a tune in a bucket. ---

Why do these threads exist? All they are is the dope falling all over themselves to show how hip and cool they are for not liking what others like. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go listen to some Journey, Eagles, Rush, Who, Zep, Stones, Floyd, and above all, The Beatles. But the Dead still suck… ---

Rush, Led Zeppelin, Genesis…(and others) Something about the tone of the singer’s voices strikes me as whiny and difficult to listen to. There is no doubt that the music is of top notch quality, but those vocals give me a headache. ---
