Well, that’s how they test animals for rabies. Hasn’t really caught on as a human testing system for some reason.

I was just reading the Wikipedia article on rabies. After the virus gets out of muscle tissue and into a nerve it is going to the brain. So the treatment has to get started very soon after exposure. Couple of days.

If you want to feel better about whatever ails you, go read the article.

I was bitten by a bat and had to get rabies shots. For real. :frowning:

I have the little tags to prove it. (I borrowed them from my friend’s cat–just thought I should have something to show for it).

You look thirsty.

Is there even a human testing system though? I was under the impression the only way to test for it is to get a brain sample.

Mynd you, møøse bites kan be pretty nasti…

Magic thighs! I haven’t seen you in for ever! What was rabies shots like?

I got the pre-exposure series but I didn’t get any tags. How will I get into the dog park without tags?

IM, don’t know about the post-exposure series, but the pre-exposure series didn’t hurt too bad but made me feel mildly flu-like the next day after each shot. I had shots on day 0, day 7, and day 21.

“Good news! Turns out you don’t have rabies. Oh wait…”

I thought you were going to say you finally found the six fingered man.

Actually, the idea that there is a cure for rabies is just a myth. If you ever get rabies, they take you out behind the barn and shoot you in the head with a .30-.30, and then they burn your body, and on the scorched earth they place a tear-stained sign, “Hear lyes Ol Yeller” and then Walt Disney comes back to life to make a movie about you.

Seriously! This is what really happens!

We’d noticed you were kind’a rabid sometimes but there was no need to take it so literally, dear.

Maybe you were bitten by a werewolf!
If you could write really craptacular teenfic, this could turn into a major windfall for you!

When we were kids (in the 70’s, when it was still like 900 shots directly into your eye or whatever), my brother had to get the rabies shots. We were at the bus stop, waiting to go to school and the neighbor up the road came flying down the road and ran over our pet dog. Of course, we were all traumatised, and my brother ran out into the road to grab Sammy. When he did, the dog being in pain (of course, he was dying) bit. He bit my brother pretty badly, bad enough for stitches, IIRC. Because we didn’t have his tags (he had been vaccinated, but who knows where the tags were), my brother had to get shots, just in case. It was really funny because after that, we’d tell people “oh, don’t let him scare you – he has had his rabies shots!”

A moose once dropped ping pong balls on my head.

Dude, those weren’t ping pong balls.

Dogs have access to caustic soda where you live?

You don’t remember the Reagan Administration?

It’s called what, the Milwaukee Protocol? The one that worked once?

First thing to do after you find out you have rabies -

Bite a moderator.
