I’m now 35. And, as usual, everybody I know is either gone on vacation, doing last-minute work before the end-of-year deadline hits, or in the midst of Christmas preparations. So, as usual, I get to celebrate my birthday by myself. (Not that I’m bitter or anything, noooo…) It’s a dratted inconvenient time to be born, sez I. ---

My mother cured relatives of this tendency when I was five years old. One April, she handed my cousin Joey a birthday gift and sweetly said, “That’s your Christmas present, too.” When my aunt asked her why, my mom feigned complete innocence and said, “Well, that’s how LifeOnWry and LilSis (born Jan. 11)get their birthday presents.” Happy birthday week to ALL of us late December babies! ---

This was the first time a) I had to work on my birthday (turned 26) and b) didn’t get to celebrate with parents, boyfriend or close friends. ☹ It’s good to know that everyone feels the same way. Happy birthday to all. ---

My brother’s birthday is Christmas Day, my Mom’s is New Year’s Eve. I know whereof you speak, and I commiserate with you all. We’re throwing Bryan a birthday party this year for his 34th. Party hats, presents, lasagna, pizza, balloons, the whole schmear. We’ll do Christmas another time. ---

Another December birthday here. Birthdays used to be a bigger deal, but now it’s just another day. Always nice when someone remembers, just a “Hey, happy birthday” would be appreciated. No cards, no gifts necessary. But even getting a simple “happy birthday” has been getting rarer and rarer. So it’s hard to be disappointed anymore since my expectations are so low now. ---

Mine was yesterday. I took the day off so I wouldn’t have to work. Trouble is, no one else had the day off. Oh well, I took myself to Oceans Twelve. Which, in retrospect is probably the worst gift I’ll get for my birthday. :rolleyes: ---

I celebrated my birthday today by shoveling a crapload of snow… not just from the driveway but from the street so that my dad could get his car off it. At least I don’t get cheated with the whole combined birthday/Christmas gifts thing. ---

My daughter’s 2nd birthday is the day after Christmas. One day I hope she’ll forgive me. So far we’re celebrating her half birthday in June. I swear I thought I wasn’t ovulating that March evening. 😉 But it’s sorta her fault because she was two weeks late. ---

My sweetie’s birthday was the 12th. I made a reasonably big fuss over him, and will again for a late Christmas when he gets home from visiting his parents next week. (Arrrrgh…not that it’s bad that he’s seeing them, it’s just that I miss him!) Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
