Many years ago , Stonehenge was open to all. You could just walk up to it. My sister and I played around the stones. We had a picnic there. What I remember was the naked man and the horse on the Salsbury plain.
Plus the constant danger of the stones being crushed by dwarves.
I went to Stonehenge for the second time in Autumn last year and loved it. The new visitor centre and minibus ride to the stones is much better than how they used to be with a car park right next to them. Contrast this with Sutton Hoo where there’s hardly anything to see and almost everything of note found by the archaeologists has been looted and sent to the British Museum in London.
Incidentally, if you found the audioguide around the stones interesting then the book Britain BC: Life in Britain and Ireland before the Romans by Francis Pryor may be up your street.
I went and took some awesome pictures of the 'Henge, then when I wen to get my photos printed off Wal Mart told me I couldn’t print off copyrighted photos.
“But I took these”
“How? What did you do, fly to England, Italy, and Paris to take these?” (there were others)
“Um…yeah”
“oh…”
