Hope your visit to DC went smoothly. Sorry you had a bit of a bad time, I feel like I might have steered you wrong on the hotel but anyway, like I said, hope you enjoyed the sights in DC!
Turns out it is there, and it’s very visible coming from one direction, but coming from the other direction it’s completely invisible because the sign is concealed by all the people around it and the sign is all there is to see.

Washington was absolutely wonderful. The hotel was so posh we kept feeling like they were going to turf us out for being too common; our bathroom had its own lobby. 
The only problem was we didn’t get to see everything we wanted to.
The Amtrak train was a really good way to travel from NYC to Washington, so much so that I’m looking into making a longer train trip in the US next summer, possibly even coast-to-coast.
