# We're having Turducken!

My husband and I “host” Thanksgiving every year, but he doesn’t have any close family at all (parents are deceased), and my parents & brothers all live way out of state, so the only people we have most years are us and my sister.
So, since this is one of these years, the three of us decided this year to go wild and order a turducken, just for the fun of trying it. We ordered it with cornbread & sausage stuffing, and other than that we are going to make the usual sides.
Anyone else ever try it? Any tips for cooking it? Is it tasty? Would you do it again?

Turducken’s are so last year. Now everyone’s doing [Turbacoduckens](http://blog.rifftrax.com/2008/11/24/happy-thanksbacon/).
I have helped make turduckens before. I was on the ‘shoving’ end of the process. A slice of turducken is heavenly.

Holy cow (err–pig?)! I’ve never had a turducken, but that turbaconducken looks worth trying.

Ooh, my aunt here ordered a turducken. Mmmm…of course, there’s only going to be a few of us eating, so there’s going to be several year’s worth of leftover meat. Yep. Yum.
And I must introduce her to the turbacoducken. She looooooves bacon.

I always make a Turkey Tetrazzini for dinner on the friday after. I think this year I’ll be able to make it for the whole neighborhood!

I got a turducken last year. And I’m here so you can learn from my fatal mistake. If you thaw it out in a sink filled with water, no matter how water tight the packaging it comes in may look, put that sucker in at least one garbage bag.
Mom put the turducken I ordered in the sink the night before, following the directions that came with it exactly. Poor bird(s) got water logged over night.
I think I’m gonna order one for Christmas though. This time bagging it in a trash bag or 2.

They’re awesome. I’ve always wanted to try making one at home, but I’m intimidated by the de-boning required. I’m a fairly accomplished cook in some ways, but when it comes to knife skills, I might as well be wearing a hockey mask.
They sell them frozen at Byerly’s, but I can’t bring myself to pay for a prepared bird. It hurts my pride as a chef. Let us know how it turns out.

I will! My husband has the same reservations as you, because he prides himself on how he’s honed his turkey-making technique. But curiosity has won out!

We’ve had turducken for Thanksgiving twice. 4 or 5 years ago, and last year. My husband ordered them from [cajungrocer.com](http://cajungrocer.com), so all we had to do was thaw and cook. No tips for cooking really, other than just keep an eye on it, it might be done before expected.
They are really tasty. It’s just…a whole lot of…meat. Which I guess you really should expect.
