One of the real ironies here is that Farsi isn’t Arabic. It’s not even in the same language family; something that no one in the media seems to have noticed. They look sort of similar since they use basically the same writing system, but that would be like confusing Italian and English because they use the same alphabet.
Heh, dude that is so far off base.
As I’ve said my dad whiped my ass on a regular basis. I respect HIM more than I could ever say.
Why do I respect him? Not because he whiped my ass but beccause he took the time to teach me things and he was always there for me.
So basicaly what your telling me, is all those generations before me had it wrong. My Grandfather and my Grandfather’s Grandfather were just a bunch of weak pussies who didn’t know how to exercise REAL authority…
Thanks dude, for the best laugh I’ve had all day…
It’s a bit much to expect the general public to be able to distinguish between middle eastern scripts. Would you expect a typical Farsi-speaking Iranian to be able to tell between European languages?
(I also note that CNN have changed the text of the story in that link - yesterday it stated in the first paragraph that the passenger thought the text was Arabic, now they don’t. I hate it when news sites change things like that.)
Of course they had it wrong. They had all sorts of other things wrong too. So your argument is that it couldn’t be wrong because lots of people did it for many years in the past??! Do you realize how stupid that makes you sound? Should we expect you to be telling us that we’re all pussies for being opposed to cutting people’s skulls open to let out the evil spirits?
“It must be right because dat’s the way my daddy did it” has got to be the new winner for the stupidest argument I’ve ever seen on these boards. Congratulations, SHAKES, you are now a living legend in the realm of ignorance.
In fact, Farsi is an Indo-European language, related to English. Arabic is a Semetic language, related to Hebrew.
Yeah, yeah, whatever. spanking your kids is wrong.
All I saying is “if it aint broke don’t fix it.” And yes excuse me for NOT wanting to raise my boy up to be a push-over. Which is what I’m afraid most of these children turn out to be when they grow up.
It’s just like a friend of mine was telling me while he was in the service. He said it practicaly made him sick how many of those kids started crying in his “group” or what ever its called, when they got word that we we’re going to war with Iraq.
Makes me think this is partly to do with our “time out” generation.
Like it not folks it’s important to teach our boys NOT to be afraid of an ass-whip’n. Otherwise they’ll wind up being somebody elses door mat…
Who wants that??
Cat Stevens denied entry into US. Well, he’s Yusuf Islam now. Oh my God! A Muslim! A controversial one! Batten down the hatches!
Ooh baby baby it’s a wild world.
OMG! That terrorist peace-inflicting bastard!!
Bah! Cat Stevens aka. Yusuf Goat-Fucking Islam is a stupid fucker. Supported Ayatollah Khomeini’s (pig dung be on him) death sentence on Salman Rushdie and believe Salman should be killed. Idiot! Has repeatedly donated or tried to donate money to the fucking Hamas terrorists. Idiot! He’s an anti-Semitic. Idiot! Etc. Does he merit a diversion of a flight? Naa beyond a bit of derision he doesn’t merit anything at all.
There’s no cycle helmets in my home, or elbow and knee protectors and all that shit. Kids shouldn’t be pussyfooted. My girls (four and seven) get to cycle around the area and park where I live by themselves and do as they pretty much want. A week without a scraped knee and a bump on the head is a week wasted. Being over-protective so kids can’t test the limits of their body, which include feeling the pain when you fall, is something nearing child abuse. Though I never have and never will use physical punishment.
I don’t think so. And what has ‘cutting people’s skulls open’ the fuck to do with giving your kid a slap when they’ve done wrong? Same thing happened to me when I was a child and had done wrong, plus go to your room and think about what you’ve done.
Simply because you believe theres one way to bring up your children (and you have every right to do so), doesn’t mean other peoples methods are wrong and you can call them on it with your bullshit PC pussiness.
Theres a line to be drawn on how hard you hit, rightly enough, but i’m keeping it old school when I have kids.
And now you can go for it saying i’m ignorant and shouldn’t be allowed children etc etc. Can it, pussies.
“Heaven knows what people will think of me on the interweb message boards if I don’t come out with a totally PC statement everyone should agree with that shows i’m completely new age and liberal with my children, who will then grow up to be owned by everybody in their adult lives due to their parents not allowing them to do anything that might skin their knees.”
How about teaching a kid what it feels like to hit his head through careless behavior while he’s moving at a speed that can’t really injure him?
It’s over-protective parents telling themselves, and others “it’s to inspire good habits”.
Bull
Smashing your head is part of being a kid and not being a pussy, which is what this thread is about.
On top of that, I think the helmet metality is a poor way to approach being a cyclist and I think helmets are overrated anyway.
Oh, EVERYONE who hit their helmet in a crash is SO SURE that “IT SAVED MY LIFE”. That the cracked helmet (yes, they’re deigned to crack) is what would have happened to their SKULL if they hadn’t been wearing it.
A three year old should be tooling around on a trike crashing into stuff and hitting his head, not wearing a helmet.
This is how they turn out like Brutus.
Ya have no kids, I see…
your kids are pussies, I see. . .
Sorry to piss on your otherwise fine thread, World Eater, but this is starting to bother me.
Islamophobia aside, there is a way we do things differently today, and that is because we learn what works and what doesn’t. To stick to old and ineffective methods simply because of tradition is simply asinine. And cracking your 3-year-old’s skull is a piss-poor way of proving your machismo.
I was actually complaing about people worrying about terrorists too much, but it’s morphed into something better.
while you’re at it, put some fuckin knee pads on him, some elbow pads, a padded suit, and just to be safe, only let him ride on the grass, and make sure an adult is holding onto the handlebars.
a three year old riding a fucking tricycle is not going to crack his fucking skull.
a working definition of being a pussy could be taking unreasonable precautions based on
- an unrealistic inflated sense of the risk of accident
AND/OR
- a unrealistic inflated sense of the consequences of the accident if it DOES happen.
a three year old on a trike wearing a helmet fits both of those in spades.
Sure enough. But it seems that some people want to go too far in the other direction as well. They’ll deliberately put their children in harm’s way so that they can call other people “touchy-feely PC wusses.” How stupid is that?
well, obviously stupid.
but, not worrying about your kid wearing a helmet is a far cry from deliberately putting your child in harm’s way.
The fact that some people don’t differentiate shows just how prevalent the paranoia-think is.
Gotta tell you, a person advocating that a two-year old little girl should suffer the risk of head injuries as so she won’t grow up to be a “pussy” is fucking sick. Or immature.
I pray for the latter. And I’m not even religious.
