However much I might not agree with them, my answer remains the same. _ **A** nyone_, deserves to hold free thought and free speech as their highest values. There cannot be anything wrong with that or all human life will perish from this earth.

Let us not forget what a well versed French ( **FREEDOM**?) Philosopher once said:

“I may not agree with what you say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it.”

What are the odds that Bush will be remembered for “McCarthyism lite” & “Vietnam lite”?

But I don’t expect people to fund the promotion of opinions they don’t hold. Giving money to the Dixie Chicks allows them to pursue a larger audience. Since they use that moment in front of an audience to promote their politics, giving them money is indirectly support their views.

This is one of those cases where it’s the knowledge that hurts. And it’s the Dixie Chicks who provided that knowledge. Now, they get to live with the consequences.

As for me? I don’t agree with their statement, but I have no beef with them. That doesn’t mean mine is the only reasonable reaction.

Update: After seeing the national outrage, 40% drop in record sales, CD bondfires, and many radio station bannings, Maines has issued a written apology for her statements.

Typical weaseling. That sort of behavior only reinforces the need that society has to severely spank celebrities who use their money and fame to try to bully ordinary folks.

> Well, if that’s all she said then I think she was wrong to apologize. What the hell is wrong with people? It’s not like she criticized “America” or “the troops” or anything, she took a little shot at GWB. So effin’ what? Did any of these sister raping hillbillies ever protest anyone who criticized Clinton. There was a story on Drudge a couple of days ago about a guy who got assaulted at a rodeo because he didn’t stand up for that stupid Leo Greenwood song. The jingoism hasn’t really gotten way out of hand. \*\*

Sister raping hillbillies? Is that what you think of country people?

The Dixie Chicks still have the [#1 Country Album](http://www.billboard.com/bb/charts/country.jsp) according to Billboard Magazine. According to their website, none of **DC** upcoming concerts have been cancelled. Sounds like\*\* DC\*\* are crying all the way to the bank.
