They weren’t thinking that they were trying to take over the world. They were, maybe mistakenly, thinking that they were righting old wrongs and defending their territory. Who knows how much truth there is in those videos. We’d have to go to those parts of the world and talk to some elderly people to verify the info. I think it’s safe to think the official version that Americans learn is pretty distorted though. I’m just posting it so that it can be discussed. Let’s not have any blind patriotic dogmatism. We already know that the version of world events that Americans learn is pretty much distorted. The problem is that you keep on posting a bunch of links and make it so that no one wants to read your OP. What would be better is if you maybe posted a couple of links as citations, and started off with advocating a position and giving a description of the issue at hand in a few paragraphs in your own words. Go check out some [GD](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/forumdisplay.php?f=7) threads; look at the kinds of OP’s people post there. Just stop posting a bunch of links and actually state your opinion and the issue you’re discussing in your own words. ---

Massive OPs consisting of little but links to youtube videos are treated with justifiable scorn here.
