But if I say, “I won’t vote to lynch X because I think he’s the Angel,” I’m talking about roles, and if I give my reasoning, that’s what you said up above helps the werewolves. How can my reasoning be divorced from the information that I’ve gleaned? But you said shut up about the information. So my reasoning would then boil down to, “I have a feeling, based on absolutely nothing that I can share. Nothing to see here. Move along.”
That’s not exactly what I was asking. What I meant was, since you seem to want all information out in the open, do you think it’s a good idea for the Angel to simply claim right now, under no pressure at all?

To address what you said, though, it’s easy enough to say “I’m not voting for X because I don’t think they’re scum.” No need to say that you think they’re the Angel, although frankly, I’m not sure why you would think that about anyone anyway. It’s not something the Angel should be broadcasting.
It struck me that \*\*ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies \*\*has posted quite a lot to this thread, but really hasn’t said much of anything. He cast a vote for Enginerd pretty early on, then a vote for Ogre on Day 2, both times voting early and “under the radar”. Other than that, there have been a lot of posts about bacon and such, but nothing that would be likely to cause people to take much notice of him.

I think he’s trying to stay right on that fine line: posting enough that we don’t call him out for lurking but carefully avoiding calling suspicion to himself. Now, he could just be a townie trying to stay out of the limelight, but I think he might be a werewolf trying to do the same thing.
That’s a potentially good catch. I’ve been waffling on DarkSideCookies myself. There’s been some definite lurking from him (her? I can’t ever guess gender correctly), but he’s got a big plus going for him. See, Menocchio accused three people of being scum in his first post: jsgoddess, DarkSideCookies, and Enginerd.

Question is, is Menocchio a subtle, savvy person? Or is he inexperienced and prone to obvious plays? If the former, he would be smart enough to include at least one of his own teammates in the opening salvo, just to keep us guessing. If the latter, then he’d just call out three townies right away in hopes of getting something started.

Since the SDMB has never hosted this game before, most players are first-timers. Menocchio didn’t seem well versed in the game, and I think it was his first time. OTOH, he could well have gotten some coaching from a teammate with experience. Still, my read is that he wouldn’t be savvy enough to point fingers at his own teammates so early. If my read is correct, then I tentatively mark those three down as town. Doesn’t mean I won’t lynch them if their behavior warrants it, but it’s a plus for them in my eyes.

What’s your take on that, Plankton?

Can somebody update the votes? It’s been a while.

You know, I gotta say, **JSexton** ’s last few posts have kind of undone my suspicion for him. Which makes sense, because my suspicions were never really reasoned out. unvote **JSexton**.

</div>

My take on things is this: That too much talking in this game can be hazardous to one’s health. Even if you don’t make outright accusations, too much speculation is bound to get you into trouble. Suppose I come out and say “I think Persons A, B, C, and D are werewolves, and here’s why…” If I’m even mostly right, my only chance to see the dawn is if I’m sitting in the Guardian Angel’s lap. And if I’m wrong, I’m headed for a lynching for calling out innocent townspeople. That being said, this isn’t an individual sport, so “taking one for the team” has to figure in somewhere. I just hope I haven’t already done too much yapping for my own good; I guess I’ll find out if I happen to wake up dead in the morning.
What I really want to know is why \*\*Rysto \*\*was killed. He only made two posts of any significance. In the first, he accused **One And Only Wanderers** , and also cast suspicion on **JSexton** , **Kythereia** , and **Menocchio**. In the other, he changed his vote from OAOW to Menocchio.

By the time he voted for Menocchio, the ball was already rolling, and I don’t think it was going to stop. His was the fourth in five consecutive posts to vote for him. So if it was a retaliation kill, why Rysto? Why not **Ogre** , who voted just a few posts earlier, or JSexton, who was the first to vote, on the now-famous “third vote” rule? Is it possible that he also named other werewolves as well? Since I think we all agree at this point that OAOW is not a werewolf, that leaves Kythereia (now **dnooman** ) and JSexton as potential candidates. We can’t tell anything from Kythereia’s postings (since there weren’t any), and dnooman have voted for Miller, JSexton, and OAOW in day 2, only to reverse all of those votes. JSexton was clearly suspicious of OAOW until his declaration, and has spent the time since discussing strategy without tipping his hand in any direction. Either one could be werewolf; either one could be a townie. There’s just not enough evidence to go on.

Of course, it’s possible that Rysto’s death was a random pick, and that it means nothing at all in the larger scheme of things. In that case, I’ve just wasted a good half hour of my life.
I’m still hoping that someone will say something before Monday morning that I can glean some more information from. Of course, the pace of posting here seems to have slowed quite a bit since the flurry of activity after OAOW’s post yesterday morning. I think everyone’s getting nervous to make claims without any real substance to back them up. I think that when the sun rises on Day 3, whoever is still standing will have a lot more information to go on.

At this point, I do have a couple of gameplay mechanics questions:

If the werewolves are prevented from making a kill by the Guardian Angel, do we get all of the details, or not? For example, are we told “The werewolves tried to kill One And Only Wanderers, but the Guardian Angel protected him”, or are we just told “The werewolves were prevented from making a kill”?

One of the functions of the Alpha Wolf was to break ties in werewolf voting. Since he has been eliminated, what happens now if the wolf vote ends in a tie?
As I was composing my last post, I started having exactly the \*opposite \*thoughts. It occurred to me that it seems much of the last couple of pages of posts seem to be between **JSexton** , **jsgoddess** , and myself. Going on the “too much talking is dangerous” rule, I started to wonder if perhaps I was right all along to be suspicious of JSexton (and maybe jgoddess too), and that he was just trying to get me to reveal more information, to tell who I was suspicious of, so that he would know whether or not I was worth taking out tonight.

Then, as I was typing the paragraph above, it occurred to me that I was probably being paranoid. Of course, it isn’t paranoia if they really \*are _out to get you…
\*
Now I lay me down to sleep,
a pack of werewolves at my feet.
If I die before I wake,
it’s JSexton’s fault!_
What the third faction? Is it vampires? Witches? Oh, let’s have it be witches.
It depends. The Mafia would be third faction with a similar play style, although we could use witches and just change the names of the roles a bit. Vampires are a recruiting faction; they start off with a sole member, who can then recruit one other per night.

If there’s a tie in voting, I pick randomly from the tied players. Which leads to the first question; the only time the werewolves would fail to kill someone at night is if the person in question is being protected. So if no one is killed, you’ll know whoever it was is being protected. But no, I won’t tell you who it was that was the target. The GA, of course, is free to admit that information. 😉

A count, because it was asked for;

Miller - 4 Votes (Rubystreak, moonstarssun, Enginerd, Winston Smith)

Ogre - 4 Votes (Richard Parker, ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies, One and Only Wanderers, Kat)

Richard Parker - 2 Votes (hocow, jsgoddess)

moonstarssun - 1 Vote (unfinished symphony)

JSexton - 1 Vote (Ogre)

Currently a tie, people.

Winston Smith - 1 Vote (MadTheSwine)

I pretty much figure that if I’m gonna get lynched, I might as well get lynched after understanding as much as I can. I don’t think I have a lurking nature.

If I’ve counted correctly, **moonstarsun’s** only two votes have been bandwagon votes: One for me, and one for **Miller**. That makes me suspicious.

No.

And I do not want all information out in the open. There is a difference between wondering if certain information is more valuable sooner rather than later (or worse, too late) and demanding that all information be divulged immediately.

I’m wondering If **Rysto** was killed not for the content of his posts, but for the work he put into them - especially [this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=8255860&postcount=169). While that post doesn’t necessarily contain a whole lot of original thought, it’s a pretty thorough recap of voiced suspicions, pointed fingers, and votes. A few posts like that would give us a lot to consider without having to read through the whole thread.

We were pretty clueless as to who to lynch the first day (although we got extremely lucky with Menocchio). The werewolves themselves didn’t have much more to go on than we did. Why not kill someone who seems willing to put forth a little extra effort to help us out?

possibly, but most of us a completely new to this game and are learning as we go along. For instance, i don’t think **jsgoddess** has been so chatty today (stratagy, yes. general chatter no. More’s the pity 😛 ) but after nearly getting lynched yesterday i don’t blame her. I think it depends on the context. Plus, lurking in general really isn’t a good idea, as has been said before. We can’t judge if you don’t post. A lurker called into posting more isn’t as suspicious as one who carries on lurking regardless. Which isn’t much use to anyone. Anyway, has anyone suddenly changed posting patterns? I hadn’t noticed anything obvious, but something to look out for i guess.
