There is a way.

I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you.

(I saw this as surely one of the players with the fewest posts. I’m still trying to figure the whole thing out.)

Just so everyone knows upfront, I am moving this week. I already have 'net at the new place, but it will affect my schedule for Friday, as that is the day I am actually moving. We’re starting at 8am CST (7am EST), but I’m moving literally about five blocks away and don’t think it will take more than a few hours.

I am willing to furnish documentation of this to the GM if anyone wants to contend that I am lying. 🙂

I should be back in the office, and thus my computer, no later than 1:30 CST (2:30 EST) barring some unexpected problem.

> We shouldn’t just choose to evaluate the Testerizer; we need to take advantage of all of the information that we can from Day One (and Two). That’s not going to happen if we focus on the Testerizer and don’t put people on the spot to defend their thoughts, strategies, and opinions.

I think this is right on.

I’m a little short on time today I’m just going to try and hit all my thoughts at once at once.

Until we test someone we have no idea what the output will be and until we have seen every combination we will have trouble truly understanding the code. One of the colors could just be to screw with us while the other one signifies farmer, rancher, power role, werewolf, or werewolf power role. If that is the case we could be looking at 5 Days minimum to figure out the code and only if we lynch one of each type each day.

The best assumption so far for the set up was 7/7/4 with two deaths per day a worst case scenario puts us losing in 5 Days. We would never figure out the pattern before it was too late. As far as how to select people I don’t think asking for volunteers is the right way. If we are asking for someone to volunteer to die they will be town but then we are guaranteeing that we waste our lynch. If we don’t guarantee that we kill the volunteer then it is the perfect chance for a wolf to gain townie cred. I think the best way to start off is random selection or going after a lurker. On the first day I would be ok with killing the person tested but after that I think we need to be open to not figuring out the testerizer if someone is obviously scummy instead of giving them one more Night of actions.

As for not lynching it gives the scum a ½ Day lead on us and if later on for some reason we go for this option again we will be a whole Day back. I think we need to save the ½ Day for when we need time to make a crucial decision, to prevent a lynch or lose situation, rather then when all we will be buying time for is hoping the scum screw up.

One other thing we need to consider is that we want to give ourselves time to change any decision we make so deadlines for getting votes in should be at least 12 hours and preferably 24 hrs before the even we’re voting on occurs.

Oredigger, I agree that if we have a good reason to lynch someone, the fact that that person hasn’t been tested shouldn’t stop us. But when we’re shooting in the dark like we are right now, lynching a random untested person is a mistake. The tester is potentially a game-winning tool, but as you say we can potentially lose the game before we figure it out.

Lynching the lurkers is the best strategy because lurkers don’t give away information. Therefore they don’t help the town even if they aren’t wolves. A noisy wolf will eventually trip up. It’s worth killing a quiet townie if it forces the wolves to babble.

Well, we better make a decision regarding how we are going to use the testerizer on DAY ONE. I’m fine with random or non-random, but either way, we need to decide our DAY ONE methodology by tonight, I think.

I’m for voting, and suggest we vote for a lurker until suspicions rise.

Well, I’m really new to the game, and so while I’m not the lurkiest lurker, I’ve also not contributed much to strategy, but then, I’m really inexperienced. So, I guess I’m saying please don’t lynch me because I DON’T WANNA DIE but then again maybe it would be helpful to lynch me because I may not provide much help later on if I live.

I have no idea what I’m doing yet.

I think we might want to test Daphne, though – she talks a lot and she’s getting on my nerves. Besides, I have this “feeling.”

The problem is that we will not have good reasons to lynch until we lynch. That is the way the game essentially works.

For the newbies, keep in mind that the basic dynamic is numbers (Town) vs information (Wolf). (The townie factions don’t matter much in this equation in my opinion.) Wolves know exactly who each other are and therefore who townies are, and will kill accordingly; however, we gain very little information from said kills alone. Wolves kill townies not at random, but as a part of a strategy - searching for power roles, eliminating strong town players, or to create the appearance of guilt in an innocent party. In the long run, that information is how Town wins. Lynch votes get scum killed sooner or later also because scum knows who they don’t want to lynch, and will try (in various ways) to avoid getting scum killed whereever feasible. Without the pressure of a lynch vote, we are at a major disadvantage. Numbers are on our side and, like it or lump it, sacrificing some of our number is what it takes to win.

As to the lynch lurker debate - personally I’ve never found it a great strategy in the long run but at least it’s a strategy at this point. I do think that picking people solely by the numbers is a poor decision and tends to create a consensus that scum can hide in. In particular, the thread count is (in my opinion) a poor gauge as it counts the entire thread, including the pregame thread. Post counts also lie; only a hand count with annotations of substantial vs. fluff, reviewed by multiple players to avoid scum manipulation, are the only real ways to determine lurker status. For now, it’s not super critical, but it’s something to keep in mind for the future. Pressure on lurkers is a good thing for Town but do it sensibly.

So I’ve discussed what not to do, but not what to do. Of course it’s a shot in the dark at this point but I’ll be blunt: I don’t like your posts, Lemur866, and I don’t like what my gut speaks to about your motives for posting. At this point, you’re the only ping I have.

I still think synching test noms and lynch votes is a good idea, so:

Why is **Daphne** pinging so many people’s radars? Her posts seem fairly sensible to me. Especially for one who’s never played the game before. She’s put thought into this. Okay, that doesn’t mean she’s not a wolf, but I don’t see any evidence that makes her any wolfier than anyone else. Though I’ll admit I haven’t gotten a good look at her palms lately.
