I certainly can’t think of anyone at SDMB who is more trusting with the personal details of his life. He doesn’t pretend to be something he is not and I like that about him. Some of his threads have lead to some involving discussions. ---

I agree that schizophrenia isn’t the sort of thing that one generally “wills” himself out of. (I haven’t read the relevant thread and can’t comment on the contents. But it isn’t at all unusual for people reading about a disease to self-diagnose. It happens frequently to medical students. Why are you concerned about the way he treats his own illness? Why do you want him to see a psychiatrist? Are you interested in his welfare? If you think he probably has “something going on upstairs,” can that not also be a “serious fucking disease”? What _I_ have noticed in **Wesley’s** threads in general over a period of time is that he does see to be feeling more centered and in touch with his own sense of self. Threads like this give him a chance to test that new found strength. I suspect that eventually he won’t need to prove it to himself anymore and will leave behind much of the need to defend himself. I wonder how long it will be before you give up the need to belittle him. Before you think that I am riding some high horse, I will tell you that I have a problem similar to yours. There is one person here who drives me _nuts_ because he has developed a false persona for himself. I have difficulty restraining my comments to and about his lies. We all seem to have feet of clay. ---
