Ahh the Fiasco was the legitimizing force for Willis. While Willis’s solo efforts are great, the Fiasco turned Willis’s meandering rants into symphonic masterpeices. They turned the random creativity of Willis’s rants and broke them up into easy-to-understand rock chords that gives something like “Caspar the Homosexual Friendly Ghost” an extra ooomph. Not an easy task to do. The legend of the Fiasco goes something like this: They were a group of professional musicians who approached Willis about making several albums. They were just happy to play with the savant. Well it went to hell in a handbasket because Willis and another member of the band had a fight over creative differences which caused the band to break up. Appearantly the band member moved somewhere in the mountains and killed himself over it. Willis is touring the country on and off. By the way, there is an “alanis morristte” Willis video in which he bumps heads with an alanis lookalike. ---

Willis used to come down to Lexington and hang around our college radio station office a lot. I’m not sure why. I was never there at the same time he was (I didn’t work there–my roommates did), but he was apparently a nice guy who was genuinely nuts. If nothing else, he made us add “whip the donkey’s ass” to our lexicon. I use it to this day. ---
