> But how did Arnold and Ford originally start up the park? They needed to have money to get the land, do whatever terraforming necessary, build at least the one town we see in the flashbacks from the start of the park, build the labs, build the robots, pay the lab techs, and other assorted costs. And I think it was a few years before the park opened where they were just working on the hosts and presumably no income was coming in. I can’t even begin to estimate how much money that all would have cost, but I would think it would be much more than Arnold and Ford had, unless one or both of them were Bill Gates rich already, or they got an unusually good loan.

Or they had investors.

Right, with the only I’d nitpick being that _Arnold_ originally created Wyatt, not Ford. You can even see the name on the screen when he is inputting his “kill” code into Dolores. Ford duplicated Arnold’s effort, with the difference being that after decades of trying Dolores had finally achieved self-agency and could kill of her own volition rather than just at Arnold’s command.

Ford’s last speech was scored brilliantly. I love how ‘Exit Music (For a Film)’ blended with the Westworld piano score and segued into Debussy’s ‘Reverie’.

Interestingly, ‘Exit Music’ was also used in Nolan’s ‘Person of Interest’, in a significant episode where an all-seeing A.I is awoken.

And of course, it was originally written for Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Violent delights and violent ends, indeed.

It’s not really - the control/reception centre is on a mesa, so the train exits at ground level in the surrounding terrain.

Also, the camera focused a little overmuch on the one black-haired host who shot MiB at the end, are we supposed to recognise her?

Yep - it was Maeve’s “original Clementine”, revived from cold storage along with the rest of the android horde.

Wyatt’s supposed actions were actually based on a historical massacre of hosts before the park opened (which included the “murder” of at least one human, Ford’s former partner Arnold) by Dolores under the direction of Arnold himself (so Arnold’s murder was actually an elaborate suicide).

Ok - so, they re-used the Wyatt Host on Teddy - and that is why I was getting confused.

I got that Dolores got a new personality in order to kill the town - I got that there was a Wyatt there helping her (that she subsequently killed) - what confused me was later on the ‘Teddy’ char (that we meet on opening day from the train) being the same host as ‘Wyatt’.

Or was that teddy both times and Wyatt really was all in Delores head? (split personality).

I’m trying to work out why the guns in this episode are suddenly firing live rounds, after it’s been pretty conclusively established the hosts can’t hurt the guests with firearms.

It seems most of the guns shown in the series are firing [simunition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wax_bullet) (ie wax bullets or some futuristic variation thereof) - yet the guns in the Stormtrooper Security Team’s hands appear to be loaded with live rounds.

From what I can tell, any gun capable of firing “live” rounds has a red ring of some sort in the barrel or the gun itself is coloured red - the handgun the security chief is carrying has one, the pistol Bernard-droid shoots himself with has one, the SMGs the security guys are carrying are coloured red, and the gun Maeve gets from Felix has the red ring too, IIRC - but the guns in the park do not have that red ring - so how are they being used to shoot the humans?

I get it’s possible Arnold bought some live rounds into the park for Dolores to use in her Murder Time Variety Hour Extravaganza, but where did the live ammo for the rifle Clementine is using at the end come from?

As for Maeve - isn’t it mentioned earlier in the series the hosts all have a self-destruct mechanism in them which will activate if they leave the park?

I’m also curious as to what Ford’s endgame is - as **msmith537** mentioned earlier in the thread, the likely outcome here is the military gets called in to put the robot uprising down, or they bomb the park out of existence, or something along those lines. I’m not really sure what he hopes to achieve from that.

Another question along those lines: Even if Maeve was able, through altering her internal programming, to disable the explosive device how long can she continue to exist in the outside world?

How are the hosts powered? How long will her internal batteries allow her to function?

“Wyatt” never existed. It was always Dolores. “Wyatt” was first an alternate personality for Dolores, and later a fictional host that Teddy envisioned as the one responsible for the massacre (who never actually existed).

For example, when Teddy later recalled “Wyatt” shooting the general in front of the saloon, what he actually witnessed at the time was Dolores shooting Arnold.

Also note that Teddy was never “Wyatt.” Dolores is Wyatt.

The self-destruct mechanism is embeddded in the spines of the hosts. When Maeve burned herself up in her last death, she had to be reconstructed from the bones on up, and she convinced Felix (the tech) to reconstruct her _without_ the self-destruct mechanism.

Dolores is not Wyatt.

Wyatt is a central character for Ford’s new narrative (and was originally from a narrative Arnold and Ford were working on together). Some of his code was merged with Dolores so she could wipe out all the hosts, and kill a human (Arnold) so the park couldn’t open. Ford followed the same idea when he had Dolores shoot him and start firing on the guests.

It seems in Ford’s new narrative, he removed the “Hosts can’t hurt guests” rule (since Teddy shot MIB and Dolores shot Ford)

Regarding Maeve leaving…I was under the impression that new bodies were cast for Maeve, Hector and the Snake tattoo woman. They showed them assembling the new spine without the safety mechanism, and then showed Maeve, Hector and snake woman being reset (Hector doesn’t have a scar yet, and snake woman was getting her tattoo done)

The only reason Hector couldn’t leave was because Maeve programmed him not to.

Exactly, there must have been investors who had spent a large amount of money and had been waiting years for the park to open. Why would Arnold think his plan would keep the park from opening? It just doesn’t make sense, unless it’s just that Arnold wanted to die so much the rest of his plan wasn’t well thought out.

I figured that the fire damaged their bodies and they had to be rebuilt or reformed to some extent, and that gave Felix the chance to take the explosives out. But it’s a good question about how would she survive. Also it’s not just her batteries, it’d be like if an actual homesteader or madam from the 1800’s traveled through time to the 21st century. But I’m guessing the next season will deal with more of that stuff.

Other than being angry that the MiB = William thing was confirmed, I thought it was a solid finale!

I have a few observations that haven’t been mentioned here:

- Dolores and Meave switched roles: I think it’s interesting that the two robots who became self aware did so by different means, and then switched once becoming awakened. Meave achieved her awakening by being violent and bloodthirsty, whereas Dolores achieved slowly and much more introspectively. Yet their decisions after being awakened switched. Meave decided to not kill humanity after seeing the human mother and daughter, and Dolores decided to kill Ford and a bunch of other people. A pretty cool role-reversal if you ask me.

- There never were two timelines (But there kinda were): This was also really clever to me. Technically, what we saw happen on screen was all within one timeline because we followed Dolores as she was reliving her memories. She was remembering things from 30 years ago that actually happened, but as we were seeing them they weren’t happening. So the show was technically only on one timeline!

- The person who added the extra code into Meave: Ah, the economics of television. I think the “secret coder” will be revealed as someone else next season and will have a role to play. Notice that they never said it was Ford, we all just assumed it was. I think the writers did that intentionally to set up next season while simultaneously giving themselves an out if they only had this one season. Only one season? Surely it was Ford who did that to fit his plan! Renewed for another season? "We never said it was Ford who did that! It was actually (Elsie, Arnold, Bernard, etc.).

And I know Delos apparently wasn’t there from the beginning, but I would have assumed that some outside investors must have put in money upfront and it wasn’t just Arnold and Ford spending their money to make the park. If there’s something I missed please let me know.

Maybe Arnold thought Ford wouldn’t have the ability to repair the hosts in time?

I’m under the impression it was Arnold. (It was even mentioned when Bernard told her that she is running a new narrative.) In Episode 2 when Dolores met Maeve in the road…Dolores said the “Violent delights have violent ends” which “awoke” Maeve. I’m thinking that when a host hears the “Violent ends” line, it unlocks the Arnold code.

I thought Arnold’s plan was to show a host could kill a human…and if that was the case, the park couldn’t open. But Ford covered it up.
