Let’s see… Ice Cold Coke in a 44oz cup. Good Music in the Van. 68 degrees, light breeze, sunglasses, and driving and enjoying the scenery Time to snuggle and give the wife a serious earthshaking kiss. Weirding out the kids with earshattering rap fetishes with Def Leppard or Iron Maiden loud. (Did this… the strange looks I got still make me smile years later.) Hearing a set of Polk SDA 1.5’s ($3000 in '91) with “Only” 700 watts of Amplifier power. Drum solos that loud can inspire heart attacks. Oh, and the best for all of us who drive in town a lot: Catching all the green lights. ---

the smell of rain falling asleep in someone’s arms waking up and realizing you can go back to bed if you wanted to watching sunsets wandering in a beautiful garden willow trees hearing that someone cares when you’re sad pineapples photographs pupppies best friends laughter running in the rain with friends a good book a good film seeing something that’s almost magical because it’s that beautiful going shopping for underwear looking into someone’s eyes daydreams laying in the grass and basking in the warm sun staring at the stars coloring books and new colored pencils the way you can say anything to your best friend the feel of clay silly jokes making someone happy reaching goals patchwork quilts warm blankets irises and morning glories hand painted ceramics kisses picking blueberries ---

Kissing someone who realy knows how to kiss. The way someone you love smells. People laughing (not just to be polite) when you say something (intentionally) funny. Getting drunk with the right people. Getting so caught up in what you’re doing you forget everything else. My pond. The sky over my pond. Too many books and song to mention (Gravity’s Rainbow and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and the Meat Puppet’s “Creator” at the moment. Oh and the Pixies’ “Where is my Mind”. And Quitting the Narobi Trio by Jim Knipfel.) I would also like to concur with the favoable opinions expressed regarding clean cloths and cats. And particularly mention Medea’s Child’s “Saying something deep and odd and knowing the person you said it too understands.” That’s a good one. That’s a very good one. ---

Funny about this topic, I realized something just today. I was driving across one of the bridges from downtown Vancouver towards my apartment. It was only the third nice day so far this year, the sun was just setting, I had the top down on my car and I happened to have a nice CD in the player… I realized just as I was reaching the crest of the bridge, that dispite every setback, every frustrating 14 hour work day, every irritating thing that has happened in the last week, I’m happy. I didn’t stop smiling to myself until I got home. Sorry for not following the format, but some things need a little explaining. -Discovering that you are truly content. ---

When you cook something for the first time and it turns out well Wordless communication with someone you know well enough to say all that needs to be said with a look When my neice spontaneously rests her head on my shoulder Getting a letter in the mail When I get home and have the pictures developed and they all come out exactly the way I hoped they would when I took them The first Renaissance Faire of the season Thunder and lightening storms Twelve years worth of inside jokes with the same person Hammock-time When I find a chore I’ve been meaning to do has already been done The third day of a fast when the hunger’s gone away and you have that heightened awareness feeling that is so hard to describe The wonder of arriving in a place you’ve never been on the first day of a vacation That achy girl feeling I get in my belly when tiptoeing on the razor’s edge of arousal Finding the phrase that perfectly expresses what I’m trying to say in a piece of writing Clean sheets and towels Poached eggs on toast Being on a hike and finding an entirely new place Getting to “take a bow” Guilt-free sleep Completing a something you’ve been working on for a long time: a novel, a degree, etc. I also second: kissing someone who really knows how, the smell of rain, clean clothes, good socks, jeans that fit just right, smells that remind you of intimate moments with those you love, when a great song comes on the radio, road trips, good books, good chocolate, and waking up and realizing you can go back to sleep if you want. ---
