i like this thread, but… the whole not liking makeup thing irritates me. whenever someone says that girls look bad in makeup i feel like washing the peach colored goodness off my face so they can see that what’s underneath isn’t naturally attractive. i wear only a little foundation, blush, and maybe once a month mascara, so i know my makeup isn;t over the top goopily unattractive. i think that if every woman went entirely without makeup for a day, people would see that yes, for people born with perfect skin, no makeup is pretty, but for the rest of us, a little is better than none. ---

The third-day-without-shaving fad for men. It’s so Hollywood fake. I’m not talking about real guys just taking a break from shaving over a weekend, doing outdoorsy stuff, etc. That’s fine, natural and attractive. But otherwise well groomed men sporting outgrown bristles just look gross. It’s dubious enough on some young hunk wearing jeans and a Tshirt. A 3-day beard fuzz with an Armani suit looks flat ridiculous. Maybe it’s supposed to suggest they’re spontaneous, sensous hunks of manly sex right outta bed. Instead they look not only sloppy but stupid, as if they spend way too much time in front of mirrors carefully calculating the exact right degree of sloppiness. Yuck! Veb ---

I don’t see any reason to complain about light, tastefully applied makeup, or even rather heavier (but still tastefully applied!) makeup for formal evening events. It can be quite attractive, and for some women (such as those with pale eyelashes or an uneven skin tone) it really does make a lot of difference. But I think it is rather silly that some folks expect every woman to wear makeup every day. ---
