It finally hit me this morning when I saw someone abbreviate Truth Social as “TS” that this gave a completely new meaning to “punch your TS card”. Or maybe it’s the same old one. If you don’t know what the phrase means, Google it. ---

I used to believe that Trump only ran for president to gin up a market for a media empire. Seeing his failure to set anything up during his presidency and his total failure to parley his post-presidential clout into a twitter ripoff built on stolen open-source software makes this seem unlikely. Perhaps he thought (or was advised) that using his Presidency to start a new social media platform would be too openly corrupt, but this is pathetic. Is this the grand Murdoch-style media empire we could have expected if Trump had lost in 2016? What a joke. ---

I heard just last night that a large percentage of people on TruthSocial have never posted, and probably signed on so they could read comments, because that’s necessary in order to move beyond the main page. ---

Complete nitpick, but: It’s almost impossible to steal open source software in a meaningful way. It’s hilariously incompetent and stupid, but not theft. ---

Fair enough. They may be violating the license of that open source software, but AFAIK it’s unclear the extent to which those licenses can be enforced in court. ---

Yeah, they violated the license by not distributing their source code for awhile. They supposedly have stopped doing that, and the source is now available. Not that I really trust them to comply with the license, mind you. ---

I suppose what many people were thinking was not that _ **he** _ intended to build an empire, but more along the lines that the way his brand would have been elevated by the run, he’d find a veritable army of people who Know How To Do It who would be screaming to get their hands on all those eyeballs, and he’d have his pick of proposals for with whom to go into business, from people who could get it done and would be just asking how much they needed to pay him, personally, up front, to brand it “Trump”. (Remeber also that this theory anteceded the complete public meltdown of everyone in his core team.) What we saw though was that while _as_ candidate and then President the established platforms’ attitude that _“a Presidential Contender/President having access to our platform IS in the public interest, we can’t just not have him”_ took pressure off him and convinced him that he was Too Big To Cancel so he’d have plenty of time to find a good prospect after it was over. Now that he’s on the outs, nobody any good wants to do that kind of work for him. ---

Truth Social is in trouble. The Special Acquisition Company created to merge with it and pump it up with millions is being investigated and sought to extend the deadline for merging by a year. They failed to get enough votes for that extension and has instead extended the voting by two days.
