I’ve got 3700+ albums. None are by Springsteen, U2, Van Halen, no '80s hair bands, no Saturday Night Fever, no Lionel Richie, no Michael Jackson, no Whitney Houston, no Celine Dion, no Sex Pistols, no cowboy music, no REO Speedwagon, no Mannheim Steamroller; in fact nothing by any artist who has emerged since the mid-'80s. I see these albums everywhere I go, but none of them interest me. ---

“Everybody” has owned the Eagles’ Greatest Hits album, huh? So, if I drove down to Compton or to South Chicago and asked some local homeys to play “Tequila Sunrise” or “Peaceful Easy Feeling” for me, you think they’d have it? Yeah, LOTSA black Eagles fans out there! More seriously, “The Eagles Greatest Hits” has sold around 30 million copies, more or less. IF each copy was bought by a different person, that would mean only 10% of the population has owned it. But in reality, many people have bought it multiple times in different format (maybe a guy bought it on eight track in 1976, then on cassette in 1986, then on CD in 1996). Meaning far LESS than 10% of the population ever bought it. Nice try, though! 🙂 ---

Reminds of a bit Letterman did the 80’s. There was an album by pianist Richard Clayderman (sp?) that, according to the commercial, could be found in 1/3 of homes in Norway. Dave called someone in Norway and asked the person if they had the album. The lady said no, but she had a couple of friends at her house at the time and one the other ladies said she had it. ---

I remember hearing that at one time 1/3 (I think) households in Australia had **Neil Diamond** ’s _Hot August Night._ Never had it, never want it. ---

A lot of you guys and gals are dating yourselves with these albums that “everyone” has owned 😉 For the crazy rock fan with a 40 gig iPod full of CDs that I am, I’d say the weirdest thing about my collection is its lack of _Nevermind_. My theory is that I hear at least half the album on the radio whenever I drive somewhere anyways. ---

Not to be snarky or anything but I think that is a generalization as much as the concept of “everyone” in the OP. Actually I think it is more of a stereotype than a generalization. Yes, you might find quite a few people in 'hood with the Eagles, Bee Gees, Beach Boys, etc.-- your “average” white singers and songwriters (even _gasp_ Frank Sinatra). How do you think all these songs end up sampled in rap, really. And I grew up in the projects and I know that many people that listen to rap also have a knowlegdge of “other” music. Maybe not 100% or even 50% but enough to count. Huh. (And I won’t get into taking the fun out of the intention of the OP. _nyah_) That being said, I own a sizable amount of rap and hip hop, but I think everyone in my age group (black, white, indifferent) owns a copy of Wu-Tang’s “Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” but me. I probably just borrowed everyone else since I know every word to every song. BTW, _I_ own a copy an Eagles album _and_ I saw them in concert. ---

Couple of years ago \*\*\*it seemed \*\* \* that every house I went to had David Gray’s White Ladder. Yuck. Music for people who don’t like music, but want to own CD’s. MiM ---
