What an awful cover version

I didn’t want to believe this was true, but amazon.com proved me wrong … and they had this great review:

My vote is for Purple Haze, by (it’s a tie) both The Cure and Winger. I can respect that The Cure tried to do something different with the song, but I still didn’t like the result.

Sheryl Crow’s version of “D’yer Maker”.

But then again, I’ve missed most of the monstrosities mentioned here, thankfully.

I saw an ad for the new Miami Vice movie last night. The backing track was a remake of Phil Collins’s “In The Air”. Now, if this movie soundtrack is nothing but covers of songs from 1984-1985 by modern artists, I think it should win a special Worst Cover Concept award.

I didn’t think this thread would still be going, but since it is, I’ll chime in with the Goo Goo Doll’s (they should be shot for that name alone)cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit”. How can one cover a song that is very simple to begin with and still manage to suck “a little bit” more out of it?
